Greetings Ladies & Gents, I created the original Vendors worldwide on the 08 November 2009, after I lost control I decided to recreate the thread as I could not edit the original thread!

I define "Lapidary" as (1) a person's job title, (2) The process of cutting and polishing stones, this can be done using (a) by hand using non-mechanical tools, (b) in a rotary or vibratory tumbler,
(c) on a cabochon grinding machine, (d) on a flat-lap, (e) on a diamond or mud saw, (f) on a faceting machine, (g) with a drill or Dremel TM, (h) on or in vibratory side-ways lap or (i) on or in your own home brew machine.

The list works in alphabetical order by Country, then Region or State, then by name or web-site.

If you wish to provide additional content such as (a) other vendors or manuacturers that you have verified that are in business or have ceased trading, (b) errors and (c) dead links, you can do so via Private Message
or by email "rthasi(at)gmx.co.uk". Note: Please exchange "(at)" for "@".

Vendors that appear on super resource links such as "The Vug" and others is unwelcome, unless it is the vendor themselves that contact's me.

What I am looking for.
Vendors must offer at least one of the following, lapidary machines, spares for lapidary machines, grit, polish or rough rock that is suitable for lapidary working for example: "rocks for slabbing, un-polished slabs for
cabochons or polishing whole, pre-formed un-polished cabochons, rough rocks suitable for tumbling, stones suitable for faceting and un-polished resin type rocks such as Amber and Opals".

What I am not looking for.
Heavy metal ores, radioactive rocks and ores, sandstones and rocks that absorb water when wet, rocks that have completed the lapidary process such as polished slabs, polished cabochons, polished facets,
polished tumbles and finished jewellery.

If a vendor is currently not on this list and vendor or a member of RTH wishes to nominate a vendor I require the following key information.

1: The country and state or region of the vendor.
If this is not given I cannot add you to my list.

2: The vendor's name and web-link or full contact details, if the vendors name is the web-link, "As web-link" will do.

3: The key information looking for is who, where, what, minimum order and payment.
Who: We sell to the public, trade only, in person or mail order.

Where: World wide if not on embargo lists, on-site, within local area or country.
Note: I define "Online" as "World wide", unless "Online (USA)", which I define as "Online USA only".

What: Our products and services.

Minimum order: If any, for example: "£100.00 excluding taxes and delivery or incur a 20% surcharge" or "$20.00 Excluding taxes and delivery or incur a $2.00 surcharge".

Payment: Types of payment accepted, for example: "U.K Cheques and Postal Order's, All major Credit/Debit cards, Amex not welcome" or "Personal/Business Checks and All major US and Canadian Credit cards,
Intercontinental Credit/Debit cards not accepted and all orders over $100.00 will require a bank wire transfer for which there is a $30.00 fee".

Note: Both "Minimum order" and "Payment" examples above were an UK Manuafacturer and an USA vendor that re-brands things that are blue!

4: All manufacturers and vendors can specify their own text up to 320 characters max.

Sorry, what? Could you explain what you mean? I can understand that the full list along with your notes, is your original work and copying it could be considered plagiarism, but each hyperlink is not.

I agree, at this moment there are only 89 web-links and getting smaller as I have not been adding new content as it may already be within lists I already have linked to, so there is no point re-inventing the wheel again.

Fair use = 5% or 5 web-links, but you must rewrite in your own style and or font.

The proper way is:
1: Ask for permission to copy the content you want to republish exactly on your own website from the original author.
The Original author may ask for $$$ or other terms.

2: If permission is granted you need to credit that person or company and a web-link to the original work.
If permission is not granted or no reply you cannot copy anything!

Everyone needs to understand that nowadays everyone is their own publisher, be it Facebook, Twitter, RTH Forums or on their own website.

I have a few thoughts on this... there is quite a bit of gray area in what you just said here. It has always been my understanding that this list, and other vendor lists published on the forum, are collaborative - meaning that the creator of the list is drawing from the community to create the list and help keep it current. If you are claiming artistic license as the compiler of list then that's a bit muddier in my opinion. Maybe clarify that a bit.

Also, if any data in the list is copied verbatim from another website we need to clearly state something like "reprinted from xxx website with permission: ..." If we don't have permission please don't do it - and that should be general forum etiquette.

I didn't know about Robert Hall retiring. I'll miss them.

About Stonebridge, I am not a wholesaler/trade and I've been buying in small quantities for myself for a while, my most recent purchase was last week. ~~"The Rock Space" does not have the selection of tumbling rough stones.~~ I stand corrected. The Rock Space does have most/all of their rough rock selection.

Hello,

I see that you mentioned Stonebridge. I find that they are indecently expensive... so much that it is insulting. I went online and in the shop (Was the only one.) and their rough are sub-standard for a ridiculous price. Living in Toronto, I miss Robert Hall's originals. Trust me if I tell you that it is cheaper ordering from The Rockshed...

99.99% of all Universities within our country define plagiarism as.......:

Therefore..........If one respects the written and oral rules our institutions invented, by which sourcing & creating are played by......one may need to spend a little more time on their "homework" in order not to be judged harshly by those they "barrowed" from........A word to the wise......
