This is so hard to answer so I'll keep it to what I have or have had
Lake Superior-my state rock and the one that started my rock addiction Mary Ellen - she is beautiful and contains some of the earliest complex organisms in geological history Bat Cave Jasper-something so beautiful emerges from some of the ugliest rough Imperial Jasper the regular stuff can be super wild and the Royal has orby patterns that can boggle the mind quartz with inclusions. It like looking into another world Labradorite- it's pretty, no other reason needed Los Choyas geodes - I wish I could get my hands on more. They to me are some of the most gorgeous geodes. Thundereggs-again you never know what's gonna be inside.

I've been thinking about this on and off since the thread began and this past weekend me & Ali were talking about it.
For me it's difficult to pick a favorite as every rock is beautiful in one way or another, but rocks with a little magic in them do pop in my head when I think about it a little more.

Favorite materials to cut: Aussie chrysoprase, Botswana and Crazy Lace
Favorite rock specimen: Tabor Island labradorite, never cut as I think it could possibly release something otherworldly from within

My favorites are precious opal (first and foremost); fire agate; Sugilite; all the lovely fortification agates from northern Mexico (Laguna, Coyamito, Moctezuma, Apache etc.) and those from Argentina (Condor etc.); the incredibly beautiful agate nodules from Agate Creek, Oz; all the classic "porcelain" jaspers (Willow Creek, Bruneau, Morrisonite, Caressite, Blue Mountain etc.), Biggs and Deschutes Japers; Crown of Silver Psilomelane; and the entire family of wonderful colored chalcedonies - blue, purple, violet, pink, carnelian, gem silica, chrysoprase etc.
And that's just a sampling. I'm a sucker for all beautiful plumes, mosses, pictures, dendritics, copper mixtures, ad infinitum. If it's pretty or has great patterns and holds together on the wheels, I'll cut it and love it.

Opal, not boulder Opal, I don't like that much at all. A good deep apple green Chrysoprase, Mookaite, not all of it some is rubbish but occasionally a piece turns up with swirling reds, yellows and whites spectacular and sooo nice to work. Queensland Agate, Of coarse, not all of it, some of it is badly flawed but some of it is just magic.

Generally, my "favorite" material is the one I happen to be cutting at any given moment. But I've left a lot of stuff out of my list as well.

I can't believe I left rhodochrosite off of it. SMH
