Thanks. The piece is about 1 1/2 inches in depth and there is a lot of color showing on the pointy end. I'm gluing the face to a board with water glass and will take a slice off the back.

It's probably from one of the Oregon beds. It's not Baker Ranch as the matrix around the center is not right.

I know little about thundereggs, so I looked at pictures. It looks like something from one of the Priday beds at Richardson Ranch. Too nice to be a specimen.

Thundereggs have become some of my favorite material to cab. There's such a variety of different things that can come up in a Thunderegg, that I find they're like one of those Easter eggs with the toys inside them!
With this particular egg, I see there's some fine fractures in the matrix. I'd be inclined to try and use as little of the matrix as possible in any cab made from this one. Usually I tend to try and get as much of the matrix in the cab as is feasible (or that visually makes sense) - without jeopardizing the structural integrity of the cab, as the matrix is far less solid than the interior.

Two slabs and a heel. The face slab needs to be soaked off the board.

Really like that first cut! Don't forget to show what you do with it, please...

I don't plan to show matrix on the one on the left. I'll work on the middle one first to see how it works and grind the one on the right to see if it is worth working on.

Richardsons Red or Blue bed would be my first guess, easier to identify if theres a pic of the outside of the egg. The reddish rhyolite ball is the most common color, there are also similar ones where I have collected on the ridge above succor creek.
