New response:
Rocks, rocks everywhere, no more spaces out there. Boxes/bins on shelves in house, Glad I don't have a spouse.
Boxes in corner of dining room, Cannot believe the increasing volume.
Coffee cans on porch shelves. I swear they came from elves.
Covered pails on patio. Why do they seem to grow?
Rocks along the edge of deck. I figured, what the heck?
Plastic containers in a chest, Dunno where to put the rest.
More rocks in other places. Think I need more rock spaces.
Collecting rocks is an addiction. Sometimes it causes friction.
Sometimes they just appear. The end is nowhere near.
The rocks will never fade away. For me, rocks are a mainstay.
Wishing you well in your quest. Choose the methods you think are best.
This is my response to your request.

After the rock enthusiast in me gets past the impressive pile of rocks you've stashed away there, I wonder...you got some skeletons in that closet garage, or something? I'm curious about the top of that picture. ![(whistle)](//storage.proboards.com/1258779/images/dvbbnmdOPFhVdwEPAJPP.gif) It is a bit off-topic, but, the Halloween decorations and rocks fight for space in my garage. For skeletons I have the 9' T-Rex, 6' Raptors (3), Horse, Pony, Sabre-Tooth Tiger and probably a few others I haven't taken out of the box yet. I buy everything clearance at huge discounts, then I have to store it until the following year...so I'm kinda hoarding between seasons.

Well we all start out with good intentions. Things we tell ourselves (It's temporary, not enough of "this" to fill up a container, just bought a collection and it is all I can do to get it under a roof.) The truth is as you get older you learn more but you also forget more. I have sorted a good bit of my pile but still have consolidation and identification to do. Years ago we purchased a collection and I kept a box of Indian Blanket Jasper because I did not know what it was. It took 20 years to find out what it was.

I was thinking about asking you about the skeletons in your closet, um, garage; but sometimes that's not such a good idea.

Yes, this is not my first obsessive hobby; so I know what you mean. It's all "but it was a good deal" or "this one was really special, so I had to pick it up" at first; then it turns into a big part of your life. But that's ok - who wants to be a boring person? I still show my friends cool rocks I find even if I know they are just feigning interest!

My husband and I enjoy an occasional cigar, and recently I've found that the wooden cigar boxes are great for storing small rocks. I've put all my small fossils in them. Gives me an excuse to smoke more cigars, too.

Here in Canada we have freeze-thaw to deal with, so I only keep the big chunks that need dealing with outside. 1’ plus sort of pieces. The good stuff is all inside, in clear plastic bins, with lids, sorted and labelled, on a sturdy plywood shelf, takes up one wall. It’s tricky to find just the right kind of tough bin, of just the right size, but when you do, it makes life easier. You almost have to be capable of some basic carpentry if you accumulate a large collection. Milk crates are also awesome, but don’t fill them to the brim or they’re too heavy.

I hope the flat rate boxes weren't new and stolen from the post office and used for personal storage instead of shipping. I buy galvanized fire rings ($50 each), spray paint the outside and top half of inside flat black to make them almost invisible in a shady forest, then build a platform for each to sit on from 2x12 treated lumber in two crossed layers to handle the extreme weight (I think estimated at 2,600lbs) in each when full...(now there are 6 rings totally heaped)... 6 rings @$50/each you say...impressive, but, I would probably just bury them in my backyard and make a 'treasure map' and save myself $300... Each one of my LFRBs has something interesting I've purchased. Massachusetts is not known for its outstanding lapidary material selection. Here is a sneak peek inside the 4 LFRBs I currently have in queue.

1,320 lbs in shelf only 12x48x72". All rocks quickly accessible. Not all boxes in photo, but each weighs 5 lb empty and 60 full. Beefy comfy handles with negative bottom bevel gives super secure carry.

I have some in boxes/bins on shelves in house. Some in boxes in corner of dining room. Some in plastic containers in a spare dresser. Some in boxes on shelves in enclosed porch. Some in coffee cans on porch shelves. Some in 5 gallon pails, with lids, on covered patio. Labeled with permanent marker. Some on long step leading from house to patio. Some around edges of patio. Rocks, rocks everywhere, lol. Wit a little work this could be a Dr. Seuss book ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) With an abrupt transition to Samuel Taylor Coleridge
