Got these from an old man for a dollar a pound, don't know anything about them but they looked cool so I bought $5.00 worth - all I had on me. So, did I get taken? What are they and will they tumble - sure do hope so. Thanks for the help.

WoW! Those sure look plenty worth it to me for a buck a pound, I'd say you got a steal. Looking at those pics, I believe they'll take a beautiful shine.

Robert, I'd say your worry is not whether they will take a shine, but whether you can get some more. A buck a pound is a good price for almost anything, it seems. Definitely looks like it will take a good shine. matt

I'd give a buck a pound just to find out, five bucks is pocket change.

Yeah, that looks like a jasper/agate mix if some sort. Well worth $1 a lbs, or much more. Does Dude have some more he'd like to sell? "Number 7, calling order number 7..." Ya done goo!

The area is kinda a slow area for sales, for me so I'm only out there about once a quarter. Next time I go, i'll try to remember to bring more cash. I don't carry much cash with me while I'm working - let the company pick up the tab w/ the AmEx.
I have some quartz tumbling right now but I think I'll tumble these next.

I've been buying rock for a while now and the only thing I got for less than a buck a pound is the granite from tinman. So I agree w/ Cookie, Biker, and Tex - you got a deal

I would pay a $1 a pound. If they have that much color rough, just imagine how nice they will look polished.
Post some finished pics so we can see them with a shine.

you have swazi bloodstone and at an excellent price. i sell it for $4/lb and the rockshed sells it for $9/2 lbs or $20/5 lbs. i have some more info on it here: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/index.cgi?board=buysell&action=display&thread=1119766084&page=1i have cut some slabs but have not cabbed or polished any yet so i don't know what gerdus meant about being tough to polish until you find the right rouge. if it's chert and jasper, i wouldn't think it would be tough to polish. most of my pieces are humongous so i'm just slowly making my way through them lol. cut it reminds you of one of those cool translucent bars of soap with "things" inside. it would make some awesome christmas jewelry with the greens, reds, and whites. kim

Hey Kim thanks for the info. The guy that sold it to me said it was a softer stone but when I tested it, it seemed to be as hard as any of my agates. Iguess the guy didn't know what he had.

i guess we need to get busy tumbling and cabbing some because this is the only picture i could find searching the web of a polished piece. i tried swazi bloodstone, african bloodstone, and swaziland bloodstone - found this pic under the last one www.acstones.com/images/jpegs-A-I/AG-4242B.jpglooks like this one polished up well. kim

They are gorgeous. They look like bloodstone to me, too. I got some at the Rock Shed last summer and it polished up beautifully. There are some photos posted up here someplace.

Nah you got a deal- At a buck a pound just about anything is a deal- Hmmm I think I would make some excuses to get back there- something like- ahhh there is a customer how wants to place a bigg ummmmm order yea thats it- I better rush over there right now! Man good thing I was not so into rcoks when I was on the road- Probably would have lost my job with all the time I wasted at the rock shops!

Sounds like you got a great deal for $1 a pound. And you didn't have to pay postage, that's always a plus! When you get it polished up you will have to show us! Good luck, Bill

Under normal conditions, stefan, I would take your advice but rumor has it my company is looking to do a restructure and me and my counterpart are now competing for the same position. I'll win but she has been w/ company a lot longer than I have so I have to stay on my toes.
