My $0.03 Even if you cut and grind with water The mist still contains rock dust I still wear a mask Unfortunately, that beard growth prevents it from actually doing anything. I've done both qualitative and quantitative tests on people that prove this. For a respirator to be effective, you need to be clean-shaven. 5 o'clock shadow is too much. Also, the single strap dust masks are for nuisance dusts only. They do not provide any appreciable protection from the pm2.5 or pm10 particles, which would be the actual hazard. Yeah, I know that facial hair and a poor fit renders a mask ineffective. I was just goofing around when I put on the dust mask and took a picture.

I do all my Lapidary outside, the winds do prove to be an advantage... I usually mask up when working with Obsidian though and cutting or sanding wood around the shop and or outside..

I wrote to 3M for a recommendation for lapidary work. Here's what they said: Use an N95 mask, and any of the following models, 8210 plus, 8210V, 8511, and 9501 plus. Are any of you folks using any of these models from 3M? If so, which one and how do you like them. I'd really like to get your opinions.

Can someone recommend the 3M model numbers that are best for our use in sawing and flat lapping? 3M says N95, 8210 plus, 8210V, 8511, and 9501 plus. If you've used any of these, or are using them now, please let me know the pro's and con's in your opinion. Unfortunetly I have COPD and need to find a good mask to use while sawing and flat lapping. Let me know.

The few times I have used a rock saw, I set it up in an open garage door with a large fan blowing out past me from behind.

The few times I have used a rock saw, I set it up in an open garage door with a large fan blowing out past me from behind. Biggest issue here is the oil getting too hot this time of year. I only run mine in the morning with a swamp cooler blowing into the shop. Better to do all the maintenance so that when it cools down in a month or so they are ready to run.

it certainly swampy Lee run that fan with out water
it that sweat in the eye that make one just want to do the slow crawl
slo crawl was sharpener term for the final grind
easy to spark out in high dew
stay cool soon it will be buttiful agrin
