I finished these up late last night...as in early this morning! LOL - I do believe the first three cabs are my favorite cabs I've done so far. I started scrutinizing the cabs with the magnifying headband after the 220 stage, rather than waiting until the 500 stage. Of course, it helps to elevate them to that spot because they're Teepee Canyon Agates! LOL PIC 1-3: Teepee Canyon Agates - these cabs are all 1 7/8" tall...so pretty big at almost 2"! PIC 4: Botswana Agate - another large cab at 2" PIC 5: Madagascar Dendritic Agate - still another large cab at the 2" mark. The slab was thin, so this turned out to be a wickedly low dome. PIC 6-7: Owyhee Picture Jasper - the first one was an experiment with a super high dome. PIC 8: Polychrome Jasper - material from Brian. There's not much for pattern on this, but I couldn't let the material go to waste as it was the "leftover" material from the two the other day.

More great cabs, Jason! I especially like the Teepees, but I also like the way you oriented the first Owyhee. It really draws your eyes to the patterns...

Another fine set jasoninsd . Great work all around. I really, really love the Teepees with the yellow in them. It's such an eye-catching contrast. That Botswana looks like it's thicker than it probably is. Good job using the fortifications to create that effect. The Madagascar looks cool. Lots of similarities to Montana in that one. Generally the all-brown Owyhee can be less interesting (to me) than that with the blue sky portions*. You managed to make the brown look like sky. I guess there's a haboob blowing. Or a wildfire burning. And, finally, the Polychrome. What can I say? Spectacular. *If I have to choose, though, all-brown is generally better than if it has too much blue, which can be really boring.

Another great batch, Jason! That Bot is a beauty but the colors of the Teepees are hard to compete with.

More great work, love them all! Those teepee's are killer, but the way you framed that first owyhee is wicked cool! Just think how many of those you could have done with your new cabbing machine?

I can't stop staring at those Teepees! LOL - That Owyhee is fun stuff to work...thank goodness as I think I have a TON of it! LOL The teepees are magnifico! Thanks Bill! I was super stoked about these three. It was really difficult to take my time on these as I just kept wanting to see the finished product! LOL Another fine set jasoninsd . Great work all around. Thanks my friend! I was very surprised with myself with regards to how much the Teepees with the yellow completely enamor me for some reason! I'm not usually a yellow fan per se...but in this case apparently I am! LOL I didn't really want to make that Botswana as big as it is...but a smaller cab wouldn't have the same visual effect. I completely agree with the similarity of the Madagascar to a Montana. I honestly thought that one was going to turn out more visually appealing after it was done than what I actually find it...I'm not saying it's "bad"...just thought it'd be better... I totally agree with the view on the picture jasper containing the blue being visually far superior than the monochrome brown. However, it really reminds me of those old-time "western" pictures that have that all-brown tone to the pictures - I know it has a name, but I'm too lazy to look it up right now. (They have those up in Deadwood to sell to tourists.) I wasn't too sure if the Polychrome was going to be too boring... Another great batch, Jason! That Bot is a beauty but the colors of the Teepees are hard to compete with. Thanks Brian! I will not argue about those Teepee...odd how they are creeping up the favorites list...getting REAL close! LOL You've really been on a roll! Great looking cabs! This is my fav. The best capture! Thanks Tela! I still can't believe how fun this material is to work. I really love the landscape patterns that are possible with this! More great work, love them all! Those teepee's are killer, but the way you framed that first owyhee is wicked cool! Just think how many of those you could have done with your new cabbing machine? Thanks Kevin! I'm really surprised at the responses to that first Owyhee. At first I thought that second one looked like a better landscape piece... And with regards to the cabbing machine:

rock'n craft'n roll'n jase
your at the top of stone slide and have redefined the slant grind !
which is really cool because I think those machines w/ accessories is much less coin wise than a cabbing machine
not that I would recommend it to a newbie but a person with bit of know how certainly can be productive w/ excellent results
As you’ve demonstrated in a short time
was always skeptical of doing cabs on a horizontal lap yet a excellent past member swore by them and He did fine work
Your the slant master and that would be better than the horizontal laps I would think Especially once you find the right approach & stance
Those are fine rocks you got to!!

Thanks Ed! I really feel like I know the technique that works for me with the slant cabber...at least I "think" I've got a good technique down pretty well. I agree the slant cabber costs less in the initial money put out. However, I've noticed some issues with the slant cabber that make it very difficult to work cabs. The disks can very often be slightly "off-center" which causes chatter. That problem makes me have to work the cab in a very small area of the 8" disk. Sometimes I can only find a 1" section of the disk that has the least amount of chatter. It's not on ALL the disks, so that leads me to believe it's an "off-center" issue with certain ones. I'd love to have the opportunity to at least try a horizontal cabbing machine to see/feel the difference. I've imagined the feeling of using the horizontal, so I think I understand the differences... And I will agree that I have been blessed with purchasing and finding some amazing material - and I will also say that a LOT has been given to me by some amazingly generous members of the forum!

Right on jase
That slant/flat lap style of grinding forces one to dop... right?
Which is good!
Dopping gives more control Good habit to get into...
Have u ever ground on cabbing unit ? Genie...ect ?

I suppose someone can TRY to do it without dopping it...but they won't have knuckles for very long I imagine! LOL I have to dop everything. I keep changing how I hold onto it to try to control the grind...but I'm still learning by trial and error...lots of trial...lots of error! LOL I've never tried using a cabbing unit or Genie. I've only used the Dremel like miket and the slant cabber to make cabs...and I definitely prefer the slant cabber over the Dremel! I have complete admiration for Mike for being able to do all of his stuff with the Dremel. I don't think I'd have the patience...okay...I KNOW I wouldn't! LOL

Great job on all these beauties, Jason! It actually shows that you started looking for scratches earlier in the grinding process. You got an awesome polish on these stones.
Have to agree that the first Owyhee is absolutely killer! I have to agree with you though on the yellow in the Teepees. I'm not a yellow fan either, but the lemon yellow accent in those stones is so stunning.

Thanks Robin! I'm still learning how to best do all this! LOL - I hadn't "bothered" with looking at the cabs closely as I didn't think I'd be able to discern the difference in the level of scratches that early in the process. Boy was I wrong! LOL - I can really see the scratches between the 180 hard electroplated disk and the 220 soft smoothing disk. Seeing what the 220 sands out really is enormously helpful! (Who'da thunk it! LOL) I need to find more Teepees with the yellow!

Beautiful bunch! That picture Jasper reminds me of a Japanese painting.
I just keep wondering if there's still better Teepees out there just waiting to be found because the ones you have found are pretty phenomenal!
