7 looks like fossil shells/crinoids in quartzite. 8 appears to have some fossils in it as well.

I agree. Definitely fossils. Not sure what material they're in though.

hey stew
come up w/ another somewhat informed guess on that strange texture dark rock
If its not a meteorite nor sedimentary hornblende I would guess it to be Volcanic ash tuff
I just got a heck of education exploring the Supers here in Arizona. According to the placards and my reading skills Volcanic ash can fall in incredible kilometers of deep depths
I photo'ed some of that tuff and, it reminded me of your sample. Dark melty wrinkled texture tuff , and even had that fine whitish oxidation.
Anyway I can see you’ve moved on to Rock 7 & 8 Only vague ideas on those

ROCK #7 ROCK #8 I’m thinking rocks 7 & 8 are the same type of rock…? #7 contains a Crinoid. It could be Crinoidal Limestone. I've worked the stuff from China that's black...Love the looks of Crinoidal Limestone. #8 does look to be the same... EDIT - I didn't see the other replies...Beth might be right on the quartzite...I was guessing on the Limestone. I'm 99.957% sure those are Crinoid Fossils in there.

It would stand to reason that he was in Arizona (probably a bunch) and the rock does seem to be like volcanic material, to my uneducated eyes/hands anyway. I'll poke around a bit more with that in mind. Thank you so much for putting more thought into this, I really appreciate it! I haven't moved on, just have a pile of rocks Im curious about, so the pics keep coming. Thanks again! fernwood, perkins17 and jasoninsd I will look up crinod in quartzite and limestone for some more information. Such a cool looking rock with those sharp chompers and fossils in it! It's a good sized chunk as well... I like it!! Thanks!
