Just looked up "Praying mantis life span." Blew my theory (that this is the same bug) out of the water. They just don't live that long. (Despite the extra protein, jamesp .) It said smaller praying mantis live around one or two months, bigger individuals can live as long as four to six months. A few may survive up to 360 days. Check out the affairs of the Black Widow spider. She is large and heavy. Her lover slim and trim. A source of nutrition. Cannibalistic love at it's pinnacle. The things us men will do for a lady....violins playing You must be getting a new crop of mantis every few months. Love the mantis desert storm color motif. Guessing the females out number the males given the nature of their relationship. Mantis are amazing and have so many shapes and colors. Unfortunately I rarely see them here, Florida yes and some like 5" long and green there. |

Would you like to wash my car ? Just paying attention to detail, at 22 seconds you can see that she only shaved up mid thigh. Common practice back in the 60's and 70's. |

Too funny, tell it Jean. About the lower level leg shaving, was that something Mom may have taught back in the day ? I am only telling you this, because you asked. Yes and no. My mom used to shave her legs back then, but she was not religious about it. And just up to the middle of the knee, lol. My mom did things she wanted to do for herself, not for other people's benefit. She never gave a rat's ass about what other people thought. I took after her that way.j I went to a parochial school from K - 8th grade. They did not believe younger girls should be shaving their legs, although many of them did. I guess the nuns considered shaved legs too sexy. (What was it Joe Namath used to say? Take it off, take it all off.) I suppose they thought it would make the horny young males more attracted to them, with undesirable consequences. When I left that school after 8th grade and entered the public school system, my mom bought me a woman's electric razor. I used it some, but switched to the multibladed type before long. I stillhave it, it's an antique! |

I do remember my sister cutting herself with a razor and must have not had an electric unit. Denise said the hair was so thin above mid thigh she simply didn't shave it. Interesting topic to say the least. Certainly sexy ! |

Interesting topic to say the least. Certainly sexy ! Well, let's see. I had to be around 13 yo, so about 1970? Over 50 yo would make it an antique, right? Two methods I have never used both involve painfully yanking the hairs out by the roots, either with waxing, or using an epilady. I am not into pain, especially for something as frivolous as removing the hair from my legs, lol |

Another primitive plant, the lotus. So I cut 3 stems off just below water at high noon today when photosynthesis was maxed out. Check out the metabolism of these monsters, supposing this to be CO2 running thru the 6 pipes integral to the long rope like root and stem system. Must be miles of rope like roots in this small pond. stems with continuous gas conduits.  fatter root bulges with same continuous gas conduits.  So a single pot of lotus placed in a quarter acre pond will grow so quick it will completely colonize the pond in one season. Imagine them taking over vast flooded areas during a fleeting ice age. They are one of the first plants to colonize massive wetland areas. They provide plenty of food and habitat. It puts out heavy amounts of seeds eaten by early man. The roots are also edible and often served as novelty in expensive restaurants, not tasty unless they are heavily spiced. |
