I don’t know if you have ever addressed this regarding your trademark shape but were fish an inspiration for this at all? The shape reminds me of the fish that were in my Koi pond before we were wiped out by the Heron.

One thing I really like about poppy jasper is the fortification like jasper that fills the voids between the orbs, that heart is an excellent example. They are all pretty amazing, nice work! Agreed The contrast with the forts are an exceptional look! Thanks

Rockindad you may be onto something, I’m guessing fishing had something to do with it. I think you just found Paul's template! Might want to remove the hooks though...wait a sec...fishing lure→hooks→hookedonroc.......nah, thought I cracked the code for a minute.

What is it about these cabs that make them look a little different (in a good way)? Do they have a very low dome? Is the template shape messing with my head? Is it just the extravagant material and the angle of the photographs? Are they all huge?
Needless to say, they are all gorgeous works of art. There's just something unique about their design and I can't put my finger on it.

How do you cut the very low dome? I struggle to cut a low dome that is nevertheless consistently domed across the entire face of the cab, if that makes sense. You seem to have nailed doing just that. 2. How thick do you cut slabs? 3. What are the approximate dimensions of the cabs in your original post? 4. What is your final polish technique? Thanks again for sharing the inspirational photos.

fencejumper If you share your techniques, I will introduce you to the secret art of the paw polish. Okay in order… I have no secrets.. My grinding is all unclassified public record😊. I grind the perimeter down to a 2 mm girdle, Or so. Then dome it in All on the 80. Make sure there are no flat spots And take it to 230/280 Whatever your sequence. My cabs are typically 50 mm plus tall By 25 plus I polish on all diamonds to 5k And if its a nice tight grained piece? Cerium oxide wheel at the end. Come over if you wanna see me Goof around in the garage. That’s really all i do😊

I cut slabs at 6.7 mm And typ one at 9 mm for an occasional high dome Thanks for the info. Just one point of clarification about the girdle. The cabs in your photos look like they have a tall girdle -- taller than 2mm. Is it just an optical illusion created by the photo angle? From the photos, I would have guessed 3mm dome + 4mm girdle. I'd love to stop by the garage. But your poppy jasper looks too nice to have been purchased, so I'm guessing you are in or around California. Quite a drive from Michigan, although if I left the garage being able to make cabs like the ones you posted, I might make the trip. Now for my paw polish "secret": cat nip. Just rub a little on the rock, and you'll get a non-stop kitty paw polish. And sometimes a tongue polish.
