Definitely a uniquely challenging theme jasoninsd so thank you for shaking us out of our comfort zones For someone in my position - and I suspect I'm not alone - it's tricky because I have made a habit over the years of only buying or cutting slabs between 5 and 6mm thick. I currently have easily over a thousand 50mm x 40mm cabochon preforms cut and sorted in drawers, every one of which I intended to cab before my wrists and arms (and motivation) gave out. This means that I either use what I have or I go and purchase or cut material to make a larger thicker cabochon. That in itself would be such a major departure from my comfort zone because of the thickness that I don't see it happening so what I'm planning on is using the magic formula to create a small 4:3:1 cabochon. I have a red/yellow brecciated agate jasper that screams Halloween but it's about 4.5mm thick so I may end up with a ring sized cab. I'm tagging everyone who's chimed in so far in this thread... TommyparfivebrotherbillholajonathanstephanRockoonz@jadedvision MsAliTommy, I definitely wanted to present a challenge...but not a headache. I had intended this to create a leash of sorts, but it appears it closer resembles a choke-chain. Unless someone objects, how about we drop the height requirement and just leave it as a symmetrical 4:3 ratio (whether HxW or WxH). This should enable everyone to utilize material they may already have on-hand...

OH...*h*...NO haha I just finished my cab and I love it even if it's shaped like a pumpkin and about the size of my big toe nail Seriously though I don't care if that's what you want to do as the owner of the theme and since there have been no entries yet.

Oh please tell me that's your entry! I might have a chance at winning then! LOL Let's give it until this evening and see who else chimes in, but I'm thinking no one is going to object to dropping the height requirement...unless their completely masochistic! LOL *Here's why it didn't matter to me...I have a bad habit of cutting my slabs TOO thick, so I usually have plenty of dome to grind down to whatever height I want...and yes, if I really had to, I could probably find some material I have to make a 50mm cab with a 12.5mm dome...not that that is something I should necessarily be proud of! LOL I really do just want to make this a "fun" challenge...not a PITA...so, whatever the masses agree on... (tosses candy corn out for the chickens) I swear candy corn is my Achilles' Heel! LOL - I love that stuff! Sounds good to me 4:3 and symmetrical across Evan starts out the voting process and has one vote for the challenge being less masochistic!

Oh please tell me that's your entry! I might have a chance at winning then! LOL That's my preform! The finished cab is considerably smaller than that now ... and shaped like a toenail sized pumpkin, I kid you not. Works for me - add my vote to be in favor of the change.

I thought you were joking and saying that was the COMPLETED cab! LOL - Had that been the case, then I thought I'd have a chance! LOL I like the color scheme in that...and I can't wait to see the pumpkin shape!

I vote for the regular thickness with the 4:3 ratio.

Tommy - I think let's go ahead and say that we can drop the height requirement. So that means everyone has to maintain the 4:3 HxW or WxH ratio...everyone but Nate ( NDK). Nate has to start with an 8:6 ratio, so when it breaks in half, he will then have a 4:3 ratio cab to enter! (Just teasing Nate. ) * (And yes, I know an 8:6 ratio is the same as a 4:3 ratio. LOL )

Good. I didn't want to put Jason in this potision: But the height requirement was throwing me for a loop. Since I don't use dop sticks, those little cabs leave my finger tips sore for a few days (at best) or bloody (at worst). The remaining height / width ratio will still present an additional challenge to those of us who are going to try to make non-standard shapes -- like vampires.
