zotika-
Let me be the first to welcome you aboard this fine site. I really love those cabs. You really do neat work. I love the shapes, especially the last one. Is there hematite in that last one?
thanks for sharing,
gaetz

Hi Zotika, welcome to the forum. Wow, hard to believe those are your first, they are beautiful. Great job, give us the link to your photobucket so we can look at bigger pics. What kind of stone is the 2nd and 3rd?

Sorry about small size pictures. I am sanding them again. Agate Chalcedony — in fact, agate with yellowish-brown jasper part. This is very interesting raw material and is represented with carbonate and silica minerals. Left and bottom part of specimen are presented with carbonate minerals — mainly dolomite and calcite; the right side of the specimen is made of silica minerals: chalcedony - agate and quartz. All this 4 cabs are made of one single piece of chalcedony. From left to right: 1st and 3rd dolphin are made from purple-blue chalcedony while 2nd one is made from opal (chrysopal). Jasper (no hematite) I started my lapidary work around September 1st, this year. I made all of cabochons on rearranged bench grinder and polisher. I plan to use my Lortone 3lb rotary tumbler, but I must wait to fill the barrel. All of specimens are made from specimens from Serbia and I collected them personally. In fact I am exploration geologist and recently I finished my master thesis about geological exploration of gem mineral resources in Serbia. Thank you very much for kind words.

Kim, I make my dolphin templates myself. I draw them on computer (Corel Draw) and print it on thick card paper and cut them out with scissors.
KD, I drill my holes with a tool very similar to Dramel but this one is made in Germany (Einhell). I drill holes without any tool holder. I put a stone in box with water and tighten the stone with a vise. I am holding handle of drilling machine with a hand. Drill bits that I use are some low cost (quality) Russian diamond drill bits. They wear fast.
Thank you all, again, for kind words. Your support means a lot to me.

ok, so i'm dying to ask this next question....how many international customs hoops does one have to jump through to import Serbian rocks (and possibly cheap Russian drill bits)? got any for sale, Zotika? how would one go about paying for them (sorry, i am terribly ignorant about southern central europe these days)....
an exploration geologist's job sounds like a dream come true for a rockhound! hey, i forgot to compliment you on your heart shapes, those are way cool.

KD, I am sorry about delay. I am not familiar with our custom regulations, but am going to find out, especially because I am personally interested. When I figure it out I am going to inform you. I know that direction USA — Serbia works. I got some tools like lortone 8" saw and tumbler. So, I think that direction Serbia — USA should work also. Zotika
