toiv0 got my wheels turning…. Did some digging… and took a silicon carbide 800 grit belt that was worn off, cleaned it well, and mixed up a small amount of art resin with 4-5 carats of diamond dust. Painted a thin coating of diamond resin on the belt and put into oven for 2H at 170°. Last night was the trial run. It works great and the resin is holding perfectly. Will post pictures here and longevity outcomes.

That's awesome that you could get more life out of the belt. Good to know about art resin for the job, too.

I've recovered one wheel and plan to do the rest when needed. Super easy and much cheaper!
I made a jig to hold the wheel and used a motor from one of those Christmas deer yard statues with the head that moves. Spins at like 2 rpm so it's perfect for keeping the epoxy from puddling 👍

Nate, were you able to get the bumpy surface like the novas have? Is it helpful or needed?

Evan, I redid my 280 soft wheel. I mixed the diamond powder (I think 10 carats) into the epoxy and smoothed it onto the wheel with a popsicle stick. Let the wheel turn on my jig and it smoothed out real nice. No texture at all. It works great. I followed the tut zarguy did. Only mistake I made was not reading the whole thread LOL, Lynn actually cut down on the amount of diamond powder he used after finishing several wheels.

Maybe he deleted it. I saw someone had deleted a thread due to liability. I painted thin and set the belts down on their side. Some did run down but it wasn’t bad. And I don’t have a “thump” when I use it.

I could not be happier! I used 320# grit from china that I bought cheap awhile ago. Pic to follow

wet and dry. this diamond coated worn SC belt, cuts faster than our new super nova 280 wheel. Possibly 2x. Using 320# diamond powder in art resin.

I used 5 carats into a small amount of epoxy and coated 2 6” x 2.5” belts, put some on our worn hard wheel left of it, and made a nova burr for the dremel.

Please let us know how it cuts, wears, etc. But I would recommend adding comments to the original thread so it's all in one place. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/27289/refurbishing-diamond-wheelsLynn

Thanks Lynn, I’ll do that. Since I put 320# on a worn 80 grit hard wheel, it’s hard to be conclusive, I believe the resin and diamond stayed secure on the wheel, but I will need to use 80-100 grit to be sure on the performance.

Yesterday I ordered the rest of the diamond grits that I need. Ordered in the afternoon from JB for $.18 per carat. Late last night I got the tracking info already!
