Doesn't look at all like Outback- none that I have seen, anyway. It's nice, but I don't know what it could be.

Low grade Australian Crazylace? Does low grade mean "without all the fancy banding" I agree there is some resemblance.

Outback Jasper can be really variable. The photo has more or less the right colors, but until you make something pretty from it, . . . its just a rock. On with the process.

I'm going to throw it in the tumbler for a week and see what shows up. I think it has one fault for sure, maybe two. I'd take three pieces gladly.

My experience is for the dark brown material to be extremely soft. It might not like to tumble.

This is a photo of Outback Jasper as mined by Glenn Archer of Australian Outback Mining. He is the owner of the mining lease and the only importer of this material. He is at Quartzite & Tucson. I meet Glenn in 2000 and got a chance to spend time on several of his claims in 2008 when I was living in Australia and doing research on lapidary material of western Australia. His website www.outbackmining.com is the best source of information for most of the material from Western Australia. I have a large reference collection of of material from this region but I do not sell rocks.

The colors are more Mookaite than Aussie crazy lace, but the resemblance to Mookaite ends there.

I keep coming back and looking at this piece in particular and all I can see is some amazing freaking cabs out of it! It has a LOT going on...fortification bands...orbs...healed fractures. This one will look AMAZING once it's tumbled and polished! 20211030_121348 by wbsc56, on Flickr

Love to see a few slabs of this material. It has a lot going on and some great colors. No idea what it is or where it is from but it has al lot of potential.

Well, I couldn't stand it any longer...decided to throw this in my big tumbler on Saturday. I kept picking it up every week trying to figure if it would destroy my lid again. So far so good And then after NOT putting it in there for weeks, I couldn't wait more than 5 days to see the progress lol.
Anyway, I still think I lucked out on this one. I need to check more for fracture lines when I get it out again later this week but I wanted to show it off a little...
Also, I think it weighed in at roughly 625g. Curious to see how much I lose in the process.
Here's a before and after 5 days on the side I couldn't hardly see color on.
More starting to pop on another side.... And since I'm already posting for no particularly good reason, here is one I picked up that was called "Christmas Jasper" that is working in the same batch.
It has many moons to go, but I think once those porous edges wear down it's going to be a winner.

Son Of Beach - I think you got a winner winner chicken dinner on both of those! That lace agate is turning out fantastic! Great job on catching the same angle on the before and after pics. I'm lovin' all the healed fractures and all the orbs that are in that one!

Part of me feels guilty that I'm tumbling it and one you guys aren't making some killer cabs out of it...I'm just not there yet. There will be so much rock lost, but man if it polishes well...well I guess it's worth the temporary guilt.

While yes, it could have "possibly" made some great cabs, it will "definitely" make an amazing specimen. It's one of those the whole is greater than the sum...if parted out. Remember...no guilt! (I just couldn't bring myself to use a Frozen gif! LOL)

Part of me wants to say Pilbara jasper, but it doesn't look quite right for that, either.

Son Of Beach That "Christmas Jasper" is some kind of Flame Agate, probably from Mexico.
