Cher, There are ways to cast with stones in place...but I think it would be way beyond me to ever do it. And yes, it's likely it could be done. Though, my head hurts trying to think about it...
I just want to be able to cast pendants & rings that I carve WITHOUT paying a fortune in high-end equipment to do it. Heck... we all know it was done in ancient times.... alot of the skills were lost, or, because it's so non-high tech, it's not widely discussed. I just don't have a deep pocket and I still want to try it.
On another note... The stones used...would have to handle the heat-stress. I betcha alot of them would go poof. But, it's being done....just not with tumbled stones, but faceted ones.

That is cool, I never got into something like that in my metal smithing class. I wish they had a silver or metal smithing class around hear again. Tami

So could we have a pet woodstock festival?

Jack, I do not have a camera. With Sands down here helping, he is drawing in more people by cutting and polishing stones. I do not even have time to enjoy a moment of flatulence in the prescense of gentle people! There is a site with the process fully documented. I cannot remember the name however. It has straw casting, bean casting, steam casting. It is there, the question is where.
