Congratulation Doc your hard work on your house really paid off! Experiencing that type of hurricanes must be terrifying:o, I can imagine the noise of the wind and thunders! I hope you don't get anymore hurricanes anytime soon.

Hey Doc , better start packing to get away from the next storm.
My daughter has been working on the Turks and Caicos islands until last week. Phew , Am I happy she has gone to England ...still , I would rather that she was back in NZ so I could give her and our unseen grandson a well deserved HUG.
One day soon maybe??

Jack, I am glad she is in England also, I have been in the eye of hurricanes like this one. It must be a relief to know she is safe. My wife and I are gutsing it out in Tampa. I have a feel for hurricanes and I knew all we would get is a blow. A good one but nothing like West Palm beach where she wanted to buy an house. We are in an hotel room with little to do but watch the weather channel. Jenne has never weathered an hurricane, she is from LA. It will probably be a tropical storm by the time it gets here. More rain than usual however, I predict it will slow down and cut at a 60% angle and come to us. I predict when it gets here, it will be slow, blowy, and the skies will fall. Floriduh has what is called sheet flow, It is a little hilly here, we are at 10ft above sea level, the highest point in the state is, I believe 168ft. Most of the state, the water has no place to go. It just builds up and flows all at once. We be safe here. Thanks Jack

Well, here we go again. We have stratigically moved into the projected eye. Jenne is all nervous, we are losing power in bursts. There was a dumb ass in the parking lot who had tied a sheet to his wrists and ankles and was on a skateboard. The last blow hit and he went right into the dumpster. I project power will go off for a while soon. I promise, if I get killed during the blow or some bubba's behavior indirectly does me in, I will write and let everybody know to not write me. I love it, Jenne wants to put the mattress against the window. Well, she is from LA., she will get used to it.

We just got the power back on. The phone line came later. It was a big blow, with the power off, it got real humid in the room. With the door open for cooling off and being able to breathe, the mosquitos had a party. We had people running in a panic during the latter portion of the blow, the weather channel told of the storm quieting down and an exodus started. They all went back to Ft. Lauderdale during the middle of the night. It was chaos. When the lights went out, there were carloads of people who tried to enter parked cars in the parking lot. They then went door to door to try to get into the semi opened doors. We went out the first day to try to get some food other than the survival rations we had on hand. People were driving into other cars at the gas pumps trying to get a tankful. The street lights were out, and intersections are to be treated as four way stops. It appeared like the yuppies had turned feral. No people with badges, anything goes. That night, the few people in the hotel fought with each other all night. There was door slamming, people throwing hotel furniture out the second floor. I cannot believe people can act like this, although both my wife and I knew how fragile society really is. It didn't look like people were trying to loot for survival, they were just doing things because no one was standing over them. I am impressed, one minute, we all are acquaintances on a journey, next moment, animals. Although animals do not behave like what I saw, it is an accepted word. What worries me, IF, someone had broken into my room, and IF I was armed and tried to protect my family, I, would have been the target of legal action. There were no phones, no services, and people were acting like the end of the world had come. It was only a VERY strong storm. We just holed up in our room and waited. The power is on and people are threatening to sue the hotel for the inconvience. Today, the fire ants are migrating, and bull ants. Both are potentially lethal with enough bites. The mosquitos are swarming. The A/C is on, and we are drying the room. I went through Andrew, and it was four weeks for power. People acted like pack animals. Then came the "contractors". Unless people are geared up to endure, they get desperate. It was amazing. We were very lucky and information has not been shown here. Kinda like a black out. I am so very glad, and grateful we are ok. All we are doing is waiting for our house to close. We are geared for the long haul. It is evidence that our society is hinged on a very fragile locus. Fuel, water, food, communication, all things we depend on, can go out with a broken circuit. Then what?

the thin veneer of society has apparently developed weak spots, like the atmosphere with ozone.
glad you guys made it through the storm with only skeeter bites and loss of faith in humanity (which had pretty much dwindled over the years, eh?). what are bull ants? i've heard of the fire ants.....
stay safe, Doc, KD

We just got from the Waffle House next door. People are rude! The wait staff are trying so hard, and they have a limited menu. The manager of Wafle House has a refrigerated vehicle, and he brought supplies home and kept them in the truck. There are still no deliveries here, so his foresight got us a meal. In the resturaunt, people are loudly complaining over the inconvience of having a limited menu. What is up with that, at least it is food. Again, people are screaming lawsuit. I am not a people person, I got my Phd and lived in the bush of Alaska for four years, but this takes the cake. It is like Royalty, who have no kingdom, complaining because a pea is under 20 mattresses and they cannot possibly sleeep. My Bengals just toke it kicked back. They had their food, chased the bugs, pee'ed in a corner, cat box is clean and neat!, now they are ignoring us. Much better than the folks we see out there with Me, Myself, and I attitudes.

Hey Doc, So very glad to hear you made it through ok. Hope it isn't too long before the masses settle down to their everyday complaining and stop taking advantage of what they are able to get. Most people ... you just can't please them.
