OK, FIRST, I have to say that is the neatest and nicest bail you've ever done. Well done! It really jumped out at me. Second, the stone is very nice and the wrap only adds to it. Perfect choice for that cab! Thank you, ma'am, I appreciate it. I had a good teacher!
I'm still struggling with where to tuck the binding wire on the bail- if you look close enough you'll see it at the top. But it seemed to come together a bit easier on this wrap. Sometimes they do for me, sometimes they don't.

I guess I should ask, are you wrapping cabs?
If so, half-round is definitely the way to go for the bindings...
Yup! I'm wrapping cabs. I guess I'm going shopping for wire! Thanks for the tips! I thought so but wasn't positive.
And don't mention it, if you have any other questions, feel free to PM me. If I can't answer them there are plenty of other super-helpful people here that would be glad to. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thank you so much! One last question, (Ready to block me yet? 😂) Can you use square wire for binding?

Thank you so much! One last question, (Ready to block me yet? 😂) Can you use square wire for binding? I don't know that you can't necessarily, you might ask someone else- but I would say that it would probably make the wrapping wires stick out too far from the cab and create gaps between the wires and the stone.

Ok. That makes sense. Thank you!

I totally agree with Tela rockjunquie. That bail is so neat and beautiful you need to give yourself a gold star!
The wrap is perfect and complements that gorgeous Tiger Eye.
I had to laugh reading your advice to perk. I got that deja vu feeling!
I do believe you got your groove back, Mike.

Square wire would be very cumbersome to use as a binding wire as well as not looking neat. You'd have big bulges where you're bindings were and it wouldn't be attractive as well as the reason Mike mentioned. Half-round is the way to go for binding wires. On top of them being flat on one side which makes it easier to control and make nice, tight, neat bindings, it also costs less money.
I have used round wire for wraps, especially when I'm weaving wire, but my binding wires are always half-round. Round wire is a lot more difficult to control because they roll around. I prefer using square wire because it's easier to keep it all together and it looks neater and more refined to me. Try some square and see how you like it.

miket What I do for bail wires sometimes is to make the tiniest bend inwards on the end of your wire before you tuck it in the back. Then give it a good squeeze. That keeps the end of the wire from scratching and snagging.

Thank you! I'll probably get a pound of 22 gauge square and 22 gauge half-round from Rio grande. I definitely need this advice so thank you!

If you are getting 22 gauge square, then I would get 21 gauge half round for the bindings if they have it. You always want to have your binding wire a bit smaller than your foundation wires because it will crimp around the foundation wires tighter. It also is more aesthetically pleasing.

I agree on using 21g, but it is bigger not smaller than 22. Unless I confused that again. LOL!
