Yes, the addiction is getting reeeel bad. I have 7 barrels rolling and an incredible backlog of stuff. Every once in a while I do a rough estimation of how much time it would take me to burn through all this rough. I figure I have at least 1 year of tumbling. And yet, I can't stop buying!!! I have rough in my basement by my tumblers. Here's what's in the garage. I'd thought I'd share so you can drool with me. A lot of what you'll see is from Banjo's awesome shipment to me which I finally finished breaking up. There was about 6 lbs of green quartz which are split among two containers, one of which is buried under the agate. But wait! There's more! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. More. That's an ice cream bucket full of sodalite. Started life as a 12 lb rock. The blue quartz was another 10 lbs and is the toughest rock I've ever had to break. The Amethyst is chevron and silver lace from Richardson Ranch. OK. Who's gonna join club RA (Rockaholics anonymous)? Come on now! Show me yer rough! We all know you can polish, but what kinda mountainous challenge are you up against for tumbling? How full is your garage?

Beautiful, that's going to be so gorgeous polished. I love that blue quartz, snuck in a pound when I ordered my grit so didn't have to break it. A couple pieces were big enough for me to split them, it really cut easy. I've got some jelly bean jasper tumbling now, that stuff is really nice. Oh heck it all is. My garage is empty but for a few pieces of quartz, got several nice boxes in the basement though.

Yah, I'll agree that you have "issues." Not a bad problem to have however. I'm sure you'll have a fun winter playing with all that rough.
Hey, I've got an idea for you that may help! Why don't you buy some more tumblers??
OK, that was pretty nasty of me I know. LOL

Skipper you are way too organized! Sure looks like you're ready to rock and roll. Have fun. Forget the RA. Just accept the fact you have a "problem" and move on.

Skipper, Wow, I think it's time you opened up a rock shop!!!
I was thinking my rock pile was getting out of control, but you've put things into a whole new perspective for me -- I think I need more rocks!!!

Wow, talk about organized. Would love to dive into some of those buckets. It would be sort of hard for me to take pictures of my rough, since I have them scattered all over the place. Well, about 75% of it is in my garage but they are sort of laying all over ( these need cutting, this pile needs whacking, this pile needs sorting, etc) Sorry, I don't need RA, I think I have it under control. I only purchased 36 lbs of rough this week. Isn't the first step admitting you have a problem?

Skipper What can I say WOW! I love the candy cane Jasper (never seen any finished pics of those yet - anyone have some finished?) I love how organized you are..... mine are always mixed batches, I've never tumbled only one type of rock at a time... maybe I should

LOL. Ain't that the truth. I don't have as much rough as you, but do have a lot, yet every time I go to a rock shop or show, I always end up buying. My name is Condor and I am a rockaholic.

Well, it seems that some of you don't believe that I truly have issues. Therefore I shall prove it. Actually, posting was so much fun last night that I wanted to do more. I have new software: Microsoft Digital Image Suite - and it just makes manipulating pictures so easy! Drool away! This is my basement tumbling area. Pictures move left to right, then up. I use coffee cans and baby formula cans a lot because they approximate 3lb and 6lb barrels. When it's time for a new batch, I just dump them in. I bought a whack of stone from J2B2 on ebay - very good packer/supplier. Competitive bidding though -watch yer wallet! The brandt's red jasper is from him and I pictured some of it finished in another post recently (Delectable Delights). I use that box of crap to fill in my 6lb barrels if the rock has ground down a lot. And now for everyone's favorite - Mook! The box on the left that I forgot to label came from Sands. I use it as my "various good quality stones" box now. I've tumbled most of sands stuff (all awesome!) and just replenish it from the garage. The New Haven purple also came from ebay. I believe it is still being sold and you can get a ton of it for a cheap price. It wears down a LOT throughout first few phases, but takes a good shine. If I spin 180 degrees, I am looking at my "rack" where the tumblers are. One more shelf of stuff. Thanks BillyD! That's it. You have now seen my addiction in all it's glorious backlog. I feel better. Thanks for listening. Now, somebody said something about getting more tumblers... ;D

To answer the question - what do I do with the finished stuff? I sooo enjoy just looking at it for long periods of time. New batches usually sit in the kitchen on a dishtowel for a week or more. Then I put them into small containers (cottage cheese size) of rocks with similar colours. This past peek I lugged about 25 lbs of it into work and sold it by the pound (sold 15 lbs in 2 days). At 10$/lb, I made a fair bit of cash back so i can ... you guessed it... buy MORE! People are buying them for Christmas gifts or just to decorate rooms.
Then I listen to what people say when they see rocks at my house, or hear about the hobby. If their eyes light up and they foam at the mouth a little, I try to give them some, cuz I know they are going to a good home. People soooo appreciate that and it makes me feel good.
I don't do cabs, or jewellery, although I LOVE seeing what other folks have done. I'm hoping to hook up with someone who can do this work...I have a lot of bracelet size botswana and tiger jasper begging to be used!

Well, if you feel that those droolworthy pictures are still proof of a problem than I suggest our Shared Resource Tumbling Network. The SRTN consists of you shipping those gorgeous rocks to all of us so we can "help" you tumble them and we really will return most of them when we're done... maybe...

Hi, my name is Laura, and I am a rockaholic... These pics remind me of those penny candy stores where you go in and each type is in its own barrel and you just take handfuls of whatever you like and then pay by the pound. Yeah, that's a great idea, Skipper sets up a penny rock sale and we all fill up our buckets, I like it!!! These pics also remind me that I really should get my rough more organized, I'm already forgetting what some of it is or where it came from. I am happy though to see one of Skipper's buckets marked "green stuff", I'd hate to think he was too perfect I guess I could just put everything together in buckets and label each one "rocks" ?? Nah, better get down to some serious sorting...
