1. Group ShotThe Morgan Silver Dollar is good for scale, being exactly 1.5" diameter 2. Unknown jasper? (Maybe confetti agate?) Possibly from the Mohave area. Light pink seems to be a different, and slightly softer mineral. Mild orange peel finish, but uniformly shiny. 3. Unknown material from a California estate sale. Could be opalized pet wood (bottom right looks like pink opal). Could be agate with opal. Can anyone ID?4. Ohio Flint 5. Ohio Flint 6. Peanut Jasper from Australia (compliments of Peruano -- thanks!). This stuff is wicked hard, surprisingly solid, and polishes like a MT agate. Gorgeous material. 7. Montana Moss Agate. I tweaked a triangle template shape to put a very slight "V" on the bottom side. I like the shape. 8. Unknown agate from a California estate sale. Interesting material. No scratches or cracks. Just reflections. Can anyone ID?9. The best for last. Pet wood from an old collection. (Arizona?) About 50x28mm. Impeccable polish. The nicest pet wood that I have ever seen in terms of color, pattern, and lack of serious fractures. The wood grain runs vertical. The black lines are healed fractures and do not align with the wood grain. It has an amazing depth of color, with brown, white, and blue tones in the wood grain, with red staining and fine black lines over top. Can anyone ID as AZ pet wood or as coming from somewhere else?

Those cabs are nice. I'm gonna draw/cut some freeforms out next time I'm at the club. I like the Morgan silver dollar too. Is it real? It looks brand new.

Really superb batch, not a sore spot in the bunch. Montana Moss is a clever design.

perkins17 Thanks. The Morgan Silver Dollar is original. My grandma worked at a convenience store from around 1950 through the late 90s. During that time, she would save any old coins that she came across. When my grandma died, my mom gave me the coin collection, which I enjoyed looking through as a kid. Most are probably not particularly valuable (I have no idea), but they have sentimental value to me. Here are a few... And about 10 more pounds in a box.

Great looking batch. That pet wood is my favorite as well, but the polish in the others sure provide some nice eye candy.

What a sweet bunch of cabs! I really like how you use patterns to advantage, especially the flints, Montana and the pet wood.
Could your unknown jasper be Confetti Agate? An image search yields some cabs that look similar.

I cannot verify with 100% certainty but I have had Arizona Pet Wood that looks like your cab- running from a light red/pink to almost a clear agate. If that is what it is...what a stellar specimen!

RockindadThat's my best guess, too. I'm normally not too worried about where rocks come from, but in this case, I want more like. The first step to possily finding more similar material is to know where it comes from, I suppose. I've got some AZ rainbow wood with similar colors, but with the rainbow wood, the colors seem to run along the grain, if that makes sense. With my mystery wood, the wood grain is brown and runs in one direction, and the red pattern with black lines runs in a different direction. It's hard to explain, but that seems to differentiate it from the AZ rainbow wood I've seen. Here is another slabs from the rock. The wood grain is very faint and hard to see until it is polished. And here is a little piece of AZ rainbow wood. Definitely similar:

Beautiful cabs, holajonathan! It's a tie between the Peanut and Montana for me. They are both exceptional cabs!

I'll admit that I'm not a huge Montana Agate fan. This one however makes me look again a few times. Excellent job on all of them, especially if you get me looking more than once at something I would normally pass over.

Beautiful cabs. The coins are cool. I have some Morgans and Liberties. What gets me about the old coins is how they don't tarnish. I know the Morgan dollars are 90% silver and 10% copper. The one in my photos is from 1900. I'm sure it has never been polished, and it is very shiny for being 122 years old! Too bad silver jewelry (supposedly sterling -- 92.5% silver) isn't that resistant to tarnishing. Makes you wonder about the real silver content of most "sterling silver." Beautiful cabs, holajonathan ! It's a tie between the Peanut and Montana for me. They are both exceptional cabs! The peanut is cool stuff. As hard as it is, the handful of smaller slabs that Peruano sent me will probably satisfy me for a lifetime. I spent longer on that one than the MT agate. It was like grinding a Brazilian agate, which is hard to believe given the brecciated, almost fractured pattern. I'll admit that I'm not a huge Montana Agate fan. This one however makes me look again a few times. Excellent job on all of them, especially if you get me looking more than once at something I would normally pass over. The MT agates can be addicting. If I were you, I'd stop looking before you start to like them. Next thing you know...
