Some recents that I actually spent some time to put in front of the camera, including two past efforts that I found and remastered. The Blue Mountain is one of the remastered, one of the first few cabs I ever created that I just touched to the cerium real quick. Lastly, not really a cab, but thought I'd share my latest learning adventure with with the work in progress of my first faceted stone. Lot of ugly in the world of late, these rocks are a nice reminder of the beauty that still resides within. Those are beautiful and the polish is amazing! I like the one in the first video where it almost looks black before that flash shows up.

Your obsidian always puts a smile on my face. But, you are also multi-talented and I appreciate that, too. Your polishes are amazing!

Kevin, these are all amazing! I especially love that Blue Mountain! Everything about that one is spectacular! Thanks, Jason! I bought some killer chunks of BMJ when the rock obsession first hit me, I wish I'd have run into it a little later when I was more experienced...but, that said, I think I only paid $8/lb for it then instead of the $25+/lb it seems to go for now. Those are beautiful and the polish is amazing! I like the one in the first video where it almost looks black before that flash shows up. Thanks, Brian! It actually is black. The only drawback with the fire magnetite/obsidian is that magnetite color flash is directional. The high grade stuff doesn't take much light and can give opal a run for it's money, but most of it requires a nearly direct shot of light. Your obsidian always puts a smile on my face. But, you are also multi-talented and I appreciate that, too. Your polishes are amazing! Thanks for the kind words, Tela! Thank you! Absolutely stunning -- all of it! Looking forward to seeing that faceted stone finished. Looking good so far! Thanks, Robin! My life is defined by the Dunning-Kreuger effect, and this is no exception. There's much more to the faceting than I anticipated, so a big shout out to all the folks that make it look so easy! I'm looking forward to experimenting around with stuff once I can get this first stone figured out.

So those are all obsidian? I had no idea... With the exception of the top picture (Blue Mountain Jasper) and the faceted stone (Amethyst), yes, the rest are fire magnetite/obsidian - obsidian with layers of high grade magnetite flowing through it, which is where the color is coming from.

I am absolutely mesmerized by the first pic. Those bits of orange in a swirly green sea are amazing!
I should also add that the wood background is pretty cool too, I love the textures :-)

I'm looking forward to experimenting around with stuff once I can get this first stone figured out. I think a lot of us have that problem. Tom Herbst wrote a couple of books -- Amateur Gemstone Faceting Volume 1: The Essentials and Volume 2: Expanding Your Horizons that are fabulous. Volume 1 would help you out a lot. They are inexpensive ($26.60 on Amazon) and are jam packed with information. Tom writes with humor and they are easy to read and understand.

I already picked up both, but only just started poking around in the first volume. I have a bad habit of jumping in blind and then looking to other resources when I've run out of swear words

Very nice. On the Blue Mountain, I don't know what is more impressive: the polish, the pattern, or the perfect circle. I'd say the shape is the trickiest of those three to accomplish. I appreciate your creative approach to obsidian as well. It looks like you've put some though into how the cab shape and dome display the sheen in the different pieces. Either that, or you are incredibly lucky.

The trick on the fire obsidian, I've found, is to go with a nearly flat dome and leave about 1mm of glass on top of the magnetite layer...and a little luck doesn't hurt

Excellent, such craftsmanship. I like how a touch of red showing in the first picture.
