1dave keep us abreast of your progress on the book please. I often notice RTHlings who are qualified to do a book on their respective areas of expertise and maybe your efforts will encourage them to publish their knowledge too. So when is the book of poo coming out? I’d imagine the combined knowledge of RTHlings would fill many volumes. And it would likely be useful information, too. I totally agree. Some of us Rthers should get together and write a huge encyclopedia series off the thousands upon thousands of threads on here. This is quite possibly the greatest lapidary resource ever created, with so many awesome people contributing.

I'm a little embarrassed to do this book with so many thunderegg experts here, but someone needs to do it. There are thousands of threads here testifying of the stories no one is telling in full, many hardly being whispered about.

Concur. I consider RTH to be a repository of knowledge of many subjects that are accessible to anyone. I shudder to think that it could be easily lost due to its virtual nature.

I'm still not ready for a reveal party but right now at this moment I am working on a project with this exact goal in mind - providing a place for preservation and accessibility of the best of the best RTH knowledge. The challenge is the time required to focus and dig and find the nuggets in the rough - and consolidate. The other challenge is that so many photo threads have been destroyed by PhotoBucket that it makes me want to cry.

Many others too.

Nice set up! Most of my stuff has been boxed up for 50 years an I'm photographing now but not bothering to polish.
I'm tempted to use these as they are! I'm hoping to turn the book over to my publisher before April.

1dave-send me an address and I will send them to you. Thanks! I grew into brathood in Austin 204 West 16th St. - collected my spending money from the Capitol grounds fish ponds that I hear no longer exist. What was with that?

1dave - I was digging through a bag of miscellaneous slabs and ran across this. I have no clue what this material is - except maybe Brazilian Agate. Is this Turtleback?

Yes that is turtleback. I snagged a copy for my files. Neat stuff to me.
Iris is even better to my mind, but fire agate . . . If I were only 80 again.

1dave How long do you think it would take for this "turtleback" feature to solidify?

1dave How long do you think it would take for this "turtleback" feature to solidify? The geologic answer has been "millions of years." I think it can be quite rapid when conditions are just right. How long does it take a magnet to attract another magnet? onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/ceat.200390037pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/cg301830uHow long does it take ice to form? Take a cubic mile of lava - How long does it take to cool to the "sweet spot" where cristobalite, then tridymite, then quartz etc crystalize? For agate, the groundwater needs to get gone.
