OK, Here's my spring time entry.
When I first heard the subject of the competition I thought it was kind of vague, and I didn't know what I could come up with. But I was out in my greenhouse, watering my garden seedlings, & it came to me what I should do.
What better way to evoke the new growth of spring, than with a nice green leaf (green aventurine, I think)
My inspiration :
My aventurine slab:
My spring time leaf:
Side View:
And, just for fun, looking like it's growing out of the old bark :
Size is approx 1" wide X 1 3/4" long
Anyway, that's my show & tell for this month. Thanks for the challenge,
Patty

How do you guys cut such crazy shapes and cab them? Are you using different tool as opposed to grinding wheels?

Thank you all .
How do you guys cut such crazy shapes and cab them?
Well I cheat a little , I have a diamond band saw to preform- but I ground & polished in on a 6" cab unit.
The stem was a little tricky - but somehow I did manage it.
But the band saw makes the shape, and saves a lot of rock too.

How do you guys cut such crazy shapes and cab them? Are you using different tool as opposed to grinding wheels? It can be done with grinding wheels if your unit has them far enough apart. In other words, not on a genie. I have a Foredom and a semi large drawer full of burrs and polishing stuff, so even a simple heart gets a little time on the carving station, but plenty of people get by without those tools.

I too am hopelessly outclassed in this one, but I hope to finish my partially finished entry under the wire, but, speaking of wire... I ran the rented HD trencher through the wires out to my shop yesterday, got to patch that up first. Then we'll see...

I wasn't sure if weather and/or material was going to cooperate this month...but I squeaked this one out last minute. I didn't think I had any material that really said "Spring"...until I picked up a couple chunks of Millefiore Glass off eBay this last week. It got here, and I had a couple hours on the saw before it started downpouring. Got the saws put away right before it dumped. I posted my "springtime" picture earlier in the thread...it was of a blizzard! LOL The chunk this cab came off of is on the top in the rough picture. The cab is 37mm by 22mm.

That looks great Jason! If I tried to cab that, I'd end up with sea glass!

Here's my springtime entry. I was inspired by a field of wildflowers. The first image is the closest I have to my original slab. Second third images are my entries. I have no idea what type of material it is. It's an inch and 7/8 long by an inch and 1 1/8 wide. I just got my new expando drum put on my machine yesterday so I was able to get this finished up.

Here's my entry, 2 hrs to go. Oregon Sunset agate from way out back at Richardsons Ranch. Pit was backfilled decades ago when too deep and dangerous to continue. The slab. In process. The photo attempt in my "new" light tent setup that needs work. First one is the contest shot. Made the egg shape with high dome to be like the colorful pastels of an old school hand painted easter egg, but the light tent works better for wet slabs. And the side shot, about all it does is show the tall dome, started out as a 3/8 thick slightly wedge shaped slab. A nice AZ spring sunset, since it's sunset agate. And a turtle I chased off the road today going to get more stuff to fix my broken wires to the shop, it's a high dome too.

victor1941 - Victor, that's a fantastically colored "Springtime" cab!! Great choice on that material!! rockbrain - I 100% see the "field of flowers" in that cab!! When I was a kid (chronologically), I lived in CA. We had FIELDS of flowers all around...reminds me of that, big time! Rockoonz - Great colors...and fantastic high dome on that cab! Loved the turtle pic...and great job on shooing him/her off the road!
