Today will go down to the river and local wetland to see if other varieties are available.( hummingbirdstones I want to find a red one !). |

Let me copy/paste my update Robin: "My country boy doctor is sort of like me, my age, runs his tractor and deer hunts. Owns land close to me. Knows my neighbors, etc. I went to see him Monday, he sent me for X-rays Tuesday. He seemed to think I was being a wimp and came in just to get attention from his harem of nurses I believe lol. He saw no bruises and thought I was moving around too well to have much damage. When he got the X-ray's back he freaked out at the number of fractured ribs I had and told me to stay immobile till they healed, report any blood in urine or from coughing, etc. I had had a couple of broken ribs over the years but they never felt as bad as these did. Guess I did a number on them this time. Thanks for the concerns, believe me I am thankful to be alive, guessing my chance of survival judging from similar accidents was in the 5% category. There was more to the incident that I am not telling, like the damage done to my ribs in getting out from under the damn thing. Glad it is behind me." That's where it all stands Robin. Thanks for checking in. No more risky moves on the tractor ! I'm actually celebrating life over the past 3 weeks ! Where is that elusive red dragon ? |

I'm not surprised that you put off x rays for so long, but damn! You could have bled out from a puncture wound by now. Now are you going to be a good boy and rest? His doctor tells him he really effed up last time, a lot of fractured ribs AND TO STAY IMMOBILE UNTIL THEY HEAL! So what does he do? He goes out searching for the elusive red pet wood. Typical male, they just won't take care of themselves. Well, at least you finally got them x-rayed. |

But do you think he'll listen to us? I misunderstood what the red thing is he's looking for. Duh, a Red Dragon. I just saw that he was going wood hunting. I've been doing a lot of misunderstanding lately... But I can get away with it, because I am old. It's almost expected of me. |

They love swamps and hot shallow water hummingbirdstones. Some varieties prefer creeks and rivers, different ones seek a variety of habitats. I'll keep an eye out for red ones, so far I haven't seen a red one at my place. When we had a pool, we also had dragonflies. Red mostly. They swooped down, skimmed the water, smiled, then investigated the nearby plants. When we got rid of the pool, the dragonflies also left. Rarely get to see them anymore. Good memories. |

Oh they love their water Pat. It makes sense they abandoned you. It's all about water for them when it comes to feeding, mating and birthing. Check out this video I took yesterday. Look close and you can see the insects buzzing around the carnivorous plants. Most of them are wasps, at least a dozen varieties. I think they are drunk from the narcotic nectar. They frantically 'feed' off the entrances to the pitchers. I think they have addiction issues I went to the river and a few wetlands and only saw a few dragonflies; apparently they like this carnivorous planting because it attracts so many insects. |

Got a few more. That elusive red dragon foils me again ! Must be allergic to our enchanting humidity Perhaps some red spray paint is in order. Or a red dragonfly decoy ! Not sure what is going on here  Shot these in aperture priority to get deeper depth of field. 'AUTO' would pick 1/640 @ f4.5. Aperture priority was set at(f11) for 1/200 @ f11. f11 has deeper focus than f4.5. It helped a bit.      |

Dragonflies remind me of a tram ride I took with my grandson and his very young cousin. We were at a National park which was a beach. The tram ran a little bit inland around some waterways where there were 100s of dragonflies. They were actually landing on us on the slow open tram. The little cousin exclaimed that they were "kissing" her. She was enchanted and not the least bit scared. Kids are so cute.

When my daughter was young she told us she was going to tame the dragonflies that hung out at our pond. Within a couple of days she would sit there with an outstretched hand and they would land on her fingertip. Isn't wonderful how something as simple as a picture of an insect can bring back great memories?

The little cousin exclaimed that they were "kissing" her. She was enchanted and not the least bit scared. Kids are so cute. Me and buddies rented a house on the beach near Panama City. In the evening the dragonflies were like a cloud just off the 2nd story deck. Must have been a thermal lifting wind caused by the tall house. And/or the insects were dense at that spot. They like to cruise and eat ! Since they typically eat 200 to 300 small flying insects a day. A large insect like a wasp does take like 5 to 10 minutes for them to break it down and devour, they do that perched and not in flight. Great mosquito eradicators. |

The stems rising 3 to 4 feet above the low foliage repeatedly serve as their favorite perches. Dragonflies were always brought up at family reunions at Grandmother's place on the Florida beach. We(later the kid's)would get her crab nets on a stick and catch them and marvel at their colors and robotic construction. Great memories. |
