Yea, Robin, vegasjames , rockbrain all get to have red dragons. My southern dragons must have eaten all the red ones ! Yea, that's it ! Southern dragons get to eat blood fattened mosquitos all day long, must make them vicious vampires and cannibals ! . What part of the country are you at rockbrain ? I see a gator, cannas and horsetail. Somewhere down in the deep south ? I'm in the suburbs in central California. This is around my backyard pond. Well that explains the red dragonflies. They must like it out west ! I noticed the gator has his mouth taped, good thing, those small ones are lightning fast and quick to bite !

I love dragonflies. Everyone's photos have been very inspirational. I am working on this painting. Originally, was planning on Eastern Pondhawks. Now am thinking something with more color in the wings. Plan on using iridescent paint for the dragonflies and a little in the background. That is a scene rarely seen Beth, two dragonflies perched next to each other. Man those guys do battle. I get it for the reason of your fine outline. Nice drawing skills ! Anxious to see the finished outcome. As soon as they are in close proximity they want to wrestle. Not sure what they do to each other during these matches, guessing some form of bodily damage.

Oh, you're talking about my avatar pic. That was a trip to Florida. An airboat ride. That is cool. Those machines are a trip and many of them run some very powerful engines and perform accordingly. Last I heard Florida residents are wanting them to install mufflers lol. Many run straight pipes.

Yesterday was overcast and there wasn't a dragonfly to be found at their normal time. On cool days they are way less aggressive. Heat does play a big role in their activity level.

I ran short of words. I was getting ready to lose anyway. Uh, practising self preservation in light of the gender discussion is wise. Feeling much better. The Xray report says displaced fractures on 6-7-8-9 on both the lateral and posterior sections and additional fractures along 8 and 9. All on the right side. #1 rib is at top, #12 is at bottom. 11 and 12 only goes about half way around. Ha ha, jasoninsd can no longer strike since laughing no longer hurts. Finally safe unless made to cough. Man I could not find any dragonflies at other locations. I stopped at several wetlands to/from dentist's office trip yesterday. Am convinced that the Sarracenia and water lilies are great attractants. Especially the Sarracenia planting.

The carnivorous plants are divided by 4 foot wide concrete walkways that absorb heat greatly increasing the temps and evaporate a lot of water. In 30 minutes you are soaking wet. That concrete growing system would store heat overnight and advance plants faster than the covered greenhouses but the houses did not offer protection from frosts. They have always been loaded with dragonfly nymphs too. Well the concrete system maintains a shallow 3 inches of water that gets very warm early boosting metabolism. Many leave their nymph stage there. That begs the question if they return or stay close to their birthing location. There is plenty of space to grow more plants in the concrete system, I wonder if there are specific plants that would attract dragonflies.

I'm headed to the dentist this morning, too. Damn molar... Dude they did 2 crowns and nothing went well. They were successful but it was a long painful 4 hours. I hope your experience was better. Dang teeth ! Oh man! I feel for you. I went in and had my issue examined. They rescheduled me for a root canal and crown. Ugh. I could have spent that money on rocks! LOL!
eta To top off that bad news, I came home to a broken internet. I just got it back. I feel lost without my interwebz.

And for many good reasons too. Hard to beat for educating yourself.

A fence line loaded with blooming goldenrod was bringing in loads of bugs. That spot was the only dragonfly spot found. No surprise if dragonflies probably find flowers for that reason.

Never, in all my born days, could I ever have imagined hearing those words from you. Yes, it was probably a good thing that you thought twice before posting. Probably a few of us could use a second thought before posting some things, lol. So glad to hear your ribs are feeling better . Sad to hear your trip to the dentist did not go smoothly . Dragonflies - I posted a picture of a red dragon not too long ago. I'll repost it if I can find it. Bob saw his cardiologist last week. Surgery to replace his aortic valve, which has been put off for several years now ("we'll keep an eye on it") is finally going to happen, yay! It should help him immensely. Now he has a bunch of appts to take care of stuff leading up to it. Including with other doctors, he has/had four appts this week (two down already) . Thursday is still open right now, but his dance card is filling up! ETA - Sorry to hear these have been eluding you, James!! We also get little red ones, blue ones, green not so much, in southern Cal! Sorry for the crummy pic, didn't realize how bad it was until I posted it. The black thing it is on is a metal Shephard's Crook in the yard.

jamesp - So it's open season on needling? LOL - Glad to hear it sounds like you're on the downhill side of mending! Maybe I should go with another analogy...since going downhill was the initial cause of the "racked ribs"! rockjunquie - Tela, sorry to hear about the tooth. "Oh boy, a root canal. Yippee!!" *(Said no one ever!) - You know...you could always just have it pulled and tell people you're a hockey player! Plus it would save a ton of money. rockpickerforever - Jean, good to hear that Bob is finally going to be able to get the artery replaced! Please...as the time gets closer, let us know it's coming up so we can remember him in our thoughts and prayers.

The black thing it is on is a metal Shephard's Crook in the yard. See, you guys have prettier rocks and prettier dragons ! That one is striking. You mentioned it is small. You know I don't recall ever seeing a red one out this way. I did see another green one but the blue ones were picking at it so much it wouldn't sit still enough. The little golden one that mimics a wasp and the larger slate one seem comfortable in a the cloud of blue ones here. One other that flies real fast and over big water is content here. I have known people that have had that aortic valve replaced and felt like a new person. Maybe that will be Bob's experience ! He has had his share of issues, bet he dreads seeing the doc so much. I think he is on medicare; my rib thingy is my first Medicare experience. Health issues is becoming our concern, aging is a bummer that way.

The bone was damaged too so it will require a retainer doo-hicky. Not happy but so is life. Sorry to hear about your situation. Through Medicare there is some cheaper dental insurance but it doesn't help much until a year or two later.
