Mmm! Mudbugs! They do them up right in New Orleans. You might want to add that to your itinerary! John, let me know if you find your way to Minnesota! I'd love to hear your stories and share a ride. I know a few places to find crawdads, too. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Chuck

How does that song go? Let's see, oh yes: Isn't he, isn't he pretty in pink?
LOL
I'm sure it did the job and he got a lot of attention from the ladies!

Just a few, Marie?!? Wow! Nice bunch!
I bought some Lakers recently at the Cuyuna show so that I could cab them. I didn't want to tell anybody that I was going to cut them---some people seem to think that's hanging offense!

I've seen this before in rockhounding books. Thanks for posting. We should have it pinned. These ethics will help ensure that we're all able to continue our hobby instead of having locations closed off to us.

I also vote for ovals in order to develop good habits and build up your skills. This is a pretty good book (Gem Cutting by John Sinkankas), check out the sample pages: www.cuttingrocks.com/gallery_booksh1.shtmlChuck

Yeah, it seems like prices jump within seconds of any bad news in the world, but take forever to come down again.

From wikipedia:
There is no universally accepted standard for transliterating Arabic words and Arabic names into English;[7] bin Laden's name was most frequently rendered "Osama bin Laden". The FBI and CIA, as well as other US Governmental agencies, have used either "Usama bin Laden" or "Usama bin Ladin", both of which may be abbreviated as "UBL". Less common renderings include "Ussamah Bin Ladin" and "Oussama Ben Laden" in the French-language media. Other spellings include "Binladen" or, as used by his family in the West, "Binladin". The spellings with o and e come from a Persian-influenced pronunciation also used in Afghanistan, where bin Laden spent many years.
The Arabic linguistic convention would be to refer to him as "Osama" or "Osama bin Laden", not "bin Laden" alone, as "bin Laden" is a patronymic, not a surname in the Western manner. In its expanded form, it means "Osama, son of Mohammed, son of Awad, son of Laden".
Osama bin Laden's admirers have referred to him by several aliases and nicknames, including the "Emir" (al-Amīr), the "Sheik" (aš-Šayḫ), "Abū 'Abd Allāh", "Sheik al-Mujahid" (Šayḫ al-Muǧāhid), the "Lion Sheik",[8] and the "Director".[9]

Me, too!
The last ones may be too big to tumble, but might make some interesting cabs.

It's the only way to go, IMHO. Getting the AR-12 is a good move because you'll need a lot of rough to get a load for the vibe.

That's a great idea. Thanks for posting! That works a lot like the jaws on 10" and smaller saws.
This vise is really similar to the one on my Great Western 18". So far I haven't had the problem, but I've been cutting fairly large rocks on it...

I agree with Darryl. Quartz, not quartzite. Quartzite also has visible grains/rough texture.

Welcome John!
Some of those rocks in your second pic look like they will take a nice polish. As you learn about tumbling, you'll want to learn about hardness. Use the Mohs scale and perform scratch tests on your rocks. Rocks of similar hardness will tumble well together. The harder they are, the better they will polish.
You don't need to buy a Mohs kit. There are several sites on the web that will tell you how to assemble one from things you probably already have.
That's a lifetime supply of rock in your first photo!
Yes, ask away!

That's the same mount I have on my HP Grinder. I had a spare set of brackets and rigged up a rod with some angle iron to mount the motor on and use it on my Star Diamond 10" saw.
Don, I get more of a jump on my capacitor start motors than I do with my non-capacitor start motors. Seems like the non-capacitor motors take longer to get up to speed.
