Payment sent. Thank you Dave. Please stay in touch with this forum...I really enjoyed reading your posts when time allowed me to check in. I am sure that I am not alone in that sentiment and many people learned from them. Jeff Thanks. I'll still be around this board - just spending more time in the faceting section

Welllllll....... If I were you I'd buy new grit. Red rouge is for polishing jewelry, so thats out. You could use the mystery silicon carbide, but who knows what grade it is. THe polish will probably polish, but you have to get a surface worth polishing first. You can easily order a grit pack from the rock shed or elsewhere and save yourself the headache. This is great advice (buy new). Purchasing new grit will allow you to 100% know what you're dealing with. For all the time you'll spend tumbling it's the best decision.

I tried a polish stage in my Lot-O using those 2mm beads and it was an absolute mess (but they were also very soft stones and the whole process was run VERY wet). I run the exact same ceramics thru all stages of the Lot-O. They get moved with the rocks.

Yea, sorry. The pictures made things confusing. The box that is left contains a mixture of everything shown.

I have 3 medium flat rate boxes filled with a mixture of the following materials: Kambaba jasper Picture jasper Crazy Lace Unakite Amethyst Red & Yellow tiger eye Sea jasper Rose quartz Turritella San Jacinto agates Rio agates and more... Each box weighs at least 20 pounds. Much of the material has already been tumbled a bit (shown in the pictures wet), but there is some rough material in there also. This would be a nice box for someone looking for some variety to add to their tumbler. $40 shipped / each (PayPal) Box 1 - SOLD Box 2 - SOLD Box 3 - SOLD

wow... sorry to hear that you don't care to tumble rocks anymore. You really excelled at it in a short time. You sure you don't just want to put a sheet over your equipment for now and maybe get back into it someday? I will miss your tumbled rocks photos. I found I've got a bunch of shiny rocks that are just piling up. Not many people around me are interested in them when I try to give them away. I have a huge collection of slabs and I may look into getting a proper cabbing machine also. I just like my hobbies to be a bit more hands-on. I'll see if selling a couple of things feels right and then go from there!

I have decided to get out of rock tumbling. I'll begin selling all my equipment over the next couple of weeks and using the money towards a faceting machine in the near future. I was going to list everything at once, but I don't want to manage everything at the same time. First up is my Lortone QT12. This was purchased new from the Rock Shed and has been running for maybe 3 months. Everything is still in great shape. $130 includes shipping to Continental US. I accept PayPal. And keep an eye on this forum. I still have 2 QT66s, 2 Lot-Os, ceramics and lots of grit that will get listed. If you have any questions let me know. Dave

I had the same problem in my Lot-O. I think you're using too many small ceramics. I stopped using them and haven't had the issue again. I run a nice mixed batch of rocks and add the large ceramic cylinders if I need to make up some space.

Holy crap, could they give you anything more difficult? Looks like some kind of not so silicated rhyolite type stuff. That kind of stuff usually goes straight to my reject pile *L* as just flat being an annoying booger to tumble. Can't wait to see your results....Mel I didn't really do anything different with these rocks and I like the way they turned out. I did start out running them in 120/220 based on everyone saying how soft they were, but eventually switched back to 60/90 and just treated them like everything else I've tumbled.. I had these in a barrel with obsidian, amethyst and rose quartz. Maybe I just got a lucky batch? I didn't even break them up any or do any hand grinding.

This is not an exact science. Pick an amount of grit (using the chart I included or some other suggestion). It doesn't matter how much, just note how much you used. Tumble for one week. Open barrel. If there is a bunch of grit not broken down you used too much. If there is absolutely no grit leftover you probably didn't use enough. I always have a very small amount leftover. Make your adjustments and tumble for another week. Rinse. Repeat.

My first purchase on this board was some obsidian from you. So I guess I'll bid on this.
