You could get a 1-1/4" pulley for your motor. That will slow the arbor speed to 1075 RPM. They're hard to find, but you could put a 1" pulley on the motor and slow your arbor down even more.

That sounds like a good cheap possible solution, Don and healthy reduction of the speed
we have freaking museum/warehouse of used equipment every possible selection of diodes to heavy machinery part and all things in between here in Phoenix never let me down when hardware type places don't have what i seek Thanks agrin!

I just read your leather belt for expando post. If your belt doesn't fit tight slowing it down may not be good. The belt may slide around on drum.

I had thought of that John the belt slips on tight to the drum so if a lower speed expand the drum any it should work
working it today i started getting a feel for it I may even get use to the speed after some experience with it and it breaks in
but slower would be a benefit ed

I took the day off from work today to do some rock maintenance ect.. Called around this morning & no-one knew anything about a smaller than 2” pulley for my motor. So I figured I’d have to make one. But before that… I went to the freaking museum of unwanted parts. Just as I walked in there was 1” pulley with ½ “ arbor jus waiting for me. The only thing was --there was no set screw for it HMMMM… a drill & tap operation! O.K So then I ask: where are the pulleys? Aisle 4-- go thru this door. Now this place is huge! I stroll down aisle 4 -past all kinds of electronic motors and such. Come to pulley heaven. 100’s of pulleys. Unwanted & uncared for ! Look what I found! 1” to 3 “ 1/2 " arbor adjustable pulley! The front turns to raise or lower the belt! I think the picture shows it well O and it really slowed the speed down! Thank'n Don for the clue! Ed

Now that's what I call a cool find. I'll have to look around the local junk shops, and see if I can find something like that. Don

Talking about pulleys-- I posted this fix on the board a couple years ago about a Harbor Freight Tumbler. I had gotten the tumbler for free. Of course, we all know their famous for breaking the belt. I had the same problem It was my first & only tumbling experience. Within 2 weeks I went thru 3 belts. That was getting pricey. So I bought a super duper belt. That only succeeded in melting the plastic pulley. What to do? I went to this the museum of used parts ! I found 2 round nylon brass inserted set screw gizmo’s. Not sure what they were used for. But they just happened to be the right spindle size for that little motor. I inverted the 2 and that made a great pulley. Got thru that tumble. I haven’t turn the tumbler on since. Maybe after the first of the year I’ll try again. If the motor doesn’t burnout, I think, I got a really nice dependable tumbler. This picture doesn’t show the fix real well. Unless your familiar with the machine. I pulled the super duper belt over so you can see. The little pulley on the right is what I crafted.
