Being plastic like that I would suspect this is for polishing brass or jewelry and not rocks.

Well, this guy definitely polished rocks with it. There were a bunch of highly polished rocks in his shed along with it. Maybe I'll use it for rocks, one barrel at a time until they each wear out.

The springs may wear out before all the barrels do, so I guess I better be a little careful with my rock size. Either way, I think I'll get my money's worth.

Can get new springs at the hardware store. Kill the bowls and springs, fairly easy to replace. Even if the motor craps out, it's still a rebuild project.

I went to an auction near Branson, MO last weekend and bought a LOT of rock stuff! One of the things I bought it this Graves vibratory tumbler; and I can't find any info on it. Searching on the internet, it looks like they may be the company that makes the TV-5. I bought it for $40 and the extra barrels for $10. The guy that owned them used a different barrel for each stage. I suppose I could just treat it like a Thumler's vibe? If so, can anyone lead me in the right direction for grit amounts and tumble times in each step? The barrel is 10" diameter and 5" tall. Plus I'm wondering how large a rock I can get in this vibe - my little Lot-O limits me, so I'm hoping this one can handle larger rocks that won't fit in the Lot-O. Any info is much appreciated! Here are some photos: www.gravescompany.com/Vibratory-Tumblers.htmlFound the Company, they can likely best answer any questions you might have!

Graves is still in business, That's their logo. I think they've only done Lapidary equipment. If you compare the current thumlers rock/brass tumblers, you'll see a motor similar to yours in the rock(industrial) version, an much smaller shaded pole motor in the brass version as well as a few other differences. Given that, I'll venture that this was indeed designed to polish rock.

Yeah, I found their website while I was at the auction, but it looks like all they make is the little TV-5 now. Even so, I'm sure I can find replacements for everything when it goes bust. Time to get vibin'!
