Wanted to try this for a long time. The equipment has been sitting there. I was down doing some clean up today and fired up the forge and swung the hammer a little bit.
I don't think it looks too bad. The only guidance serves instruction i've ever had is watching a lot of forged in fire.

Oh yeah khara. I should have posted a pic. It was a spike like a railroad spike but much smaller. I threw a big railroad spike in the forge and heated it up but when I started beating on it I could tell it was going to take more time than I had to move it around. I'll post a pic of one. There's a pretty good pile of them. It might be for a smaller track like a mine car. I haven't tried to harden it. That might actually be a problem since I've already ground an edge on it. I think if I heat it enough for hardening the thin edge will probably burn.

All I can think of is that martial arts guy on the show, hacking at that dummy, then turning around, folding his hands, and saying "Your blade will kill"
We'll have to wait for someone to insert the Doug Marcaida "It will keeel" meme. I don't know how to do it! Plus, it probably won't keel. It's not even a good letter opener as I ran out of time and quickly an poorly reshaped the tip that I burned while grinding.

Very cool! I find hammering to be very cathartic. Granted I never did anything like a forged knife, but I sure feel better after beating some metal. Take's your frustrations out. I used to do bodywork. The shop I worked at tried to keep R&R costs down for some of the older clients, so it was good old fashioned dent removal and hammering at metal. Loved it!
Yes rmf. There's an H in the back that you can't see. There's all kinds of good things in there. There's also a couple of old Fairbanks Morse engines and a couple of Model T's.

Fantastic first attempt as far as I'm concerned! It looks to me like you picked up some great ideas and techniques from Forged!

We had a D when I was junior high and I use to cultivate corn with an H. Small world. What year is the D? Ours was 1934 and on rubber.
This is a 27 but should have a solid flywheel. Someone swapped out the crank years ago with a 23 so now it has the open flywheel and looks like an older and much more desirable "spoker".
