Some here know I sent a package to my new found relatives in Australia.
After almost 50 years of searching, my sisters and I have connected. I am also communicating with a niece and a couple of nephews.
I really appreciated the advice from some here about shipping items to Australia. Their import regulations are very strict.
The biggest one I had to navigate was the value of jewelry I made and sent. Fortunately, my super low declared values were accepted. Also, all jewelry and rock related things must be Fair Trade.
Learning what food related items could be sent was also challenging. Who would have thought that a processed, dry soup mix containing wild rice, would not be allowed. Fortunately, I was able to figure that out and did not send it.
My local post mistress was very helpful for both packages I sent.
Everything had to be packaged in easily accessible way. I labeled every package within the LFRB. Declared everything. Had to use two custom’s forms.
Listed the package as a gift, which might have helped with custom’s.
The first one arrived with everything still in the package and nothing was damaged.
I reinforced the inner and outer edges of both boxes. Used lots of bubble wrap and padded shipping envelopes for the second one, as it contained 5 glass jars of preserves/sauces. The jars were put in double zipper freezer bags, just in case they broke. Then placed in the padded mailer bags. I left one end of the bags open, so the contents could be inspected.
The second one should arrive at my Nephew’s place today or tomorrow.
If anyone has questions about how to send items to Australia, let me know. They have very strict regulations about shipping rocks/fossils, too.

Beth that's awesome to hear that the first one got through! Customs really can be a pain sometimes!
