All the following have been tumbled in the past 2 or 3 months; mohs, thought you might like to see these. Been cutting heart shapes out of various material and rough shaping on wheel and then tumbling them. Been attempting larger hearts with mixed success. The bigger the shape the more likely to have a defect missed by me. Bloodstone, African Bloodstone, Brazilian, West Texas Moss, and Round Mt agate; IMG_4321 by Findrocks, on Flickr Bought a 25 bag of small Fire Agates a while back. Setting aside any of size and using some of the rest as filler. None of these are larger than 1/2 inch but a good bit of fire. I know, "Tumbling fire Agate!!!" IMG_4326 by Findrocks, on Flickr Used to know the name of these small agates, from Mexico as best I remember, Very nice variety and all small. Cutting them in half on the Tile saw and using them as filler; IMG_4328 by Findrocks, on Flickr And one Vib Lap polished Sodalite End Cut, about 6 X 5 inches and 1.5" at the thickest. Not sure why the blue color came out a bit strange in the picture. Got 6 or 7 slabs out of this one one of which was cut up into the hearts pictured above. Very nice, Henry!
Love those Fire Agate smalls! Those would look so cool in some sort of display vase or bowl.

Is tumbling fire agates an issue? I believe the proper method, especially for larger pieces is to work each by hand using a Dremel to expose the "fire". Grinding too far and you lose the fire. The botryoidal(bubble) surface of almost all Fire Agate requires one to grind those individual bubble with care. Please note I have never worked Fire Agate in this manner nor do I have the patience required to do so. Tumbling has most likely lost some of the "fire". At least one member(name escapes me) out here works Fire Agate and he has posted pictures of his work, they are exceptional. I hope my tumbling has not put him on the floor!!!

Chrisopher1234 carves a lot of fire agate. He does great work. I have cabbed a few. I'd tumble if they didn't look real promising otherwise. I love your tumbles, though. I agree a pretty bowl would work well to show them off.
