spending too much on rocks

I do! My kids get some, my sisters too. And then various others, 1 or 2 or 3 rocks at a time. Last week after a plate at one of the better breakfast restaurants nearby (that’s about 20 miles for me, the place is full of college-student employees), I weighted the tip money I gave the waitress with a very choice piece of beautifully polished Mexican lace agate, and then watched her pick it up from the exit doorway. The look on her face, watching her show her coworkers as I turned to leave…priceless. Lastly, I pretty much always have 1 or 2 “give-aways” in my pockets, sometimes something much better. Petrified wood is another rock that people love, I’ve discovered. I don’t give them away every day by any means, but I always have the ability to brighten up someone’s day. You randomly find out it’s someone’s birthday. You can instantly derail a kid’s black mood, or make the Mom’s day a little easier. See a random act of respect and kindness? Give the person who did it a little reward-gratitude. Trust me, even our Veterans, our First Responders; nobody is immune to the effects of a really beautiful rock or 2. Those who are working today while the rest of us celebrate? The convenience store clerk, for example. Polished rocks are like magic, even the ones we personally aren’t too happy with. So, who are the lucky ones in your life? Who have you gifted rocks to?
so, this is a thread for you, to share your stories of giving rocks away. I hope you will add your own reply!

I loved reading that story about the waitress!! I don't tumble all that often...very seldom in fact...so I don't have a lot of tumbles to give away. However, I do give some tumbled pieces to my father-in-law. He loves getting them. He'll keep them in his pocket and show anyone and everyone. I do know he's past some of them on to other people. Thanks for the reminder. I should pick one out to give him later today!

I always have either polished or cool specimen rocks in my pockets. Give them to random people who I think would appreciate them.

I’ve found that people of all ages love getting a polished rock. It really brightens their day. A polished rock is a very good thing —- it’s like magic! Recipient is lucky. So is the giver.

Pat, you absolutely must give some away, as they keep multiplying and expanding. And you make someone's day, week, month, year in the process. They become addicts, hooked on rocks, like we all are!

We gave rocks to all our immediate family members this Christmas. We are all rock appreciative folks. We also carry them around and give them to people who need a pick me up, or if people are just kind. Everyone loves getting a nice polished rock!

I took a Ziploc baggie full of polished rocks to the family get-together today. I put them out on the table, and they were snagged up throughout the day. I did put three small ones back in my pocket at one point. Since they were small ones, I thought they would be good pocket rocks for me to give to strangers. Otherwise...the whole bag was distributed today!

I take a box of a dozen or so into work every once in a while. People go nuts and sometimes the box is empty at the end of the day! My counterpart (we are line leaders and sit across from one another) has a collection on her desk of at least 2 dozen! She is real into metaphysical properties so I'm like a crack dealer to her (except I don't charge lol). I even provided a bunch of tumbling equipment (some old CHicago Electric machines I had laying around unused, and a bunch of rough) to a co-workers son who was fascinated with stuff his Mom brought home. She told me that he gave away some of his best tumbles to a less fortunate kid at school, and the kid was in tears as it was the best Christmas present he had ever received. He was rewarded for his generous nature with a bag of Ocean Jasper and Lake superior agate rough (I was just so touched my this kids amazing kindness).

Stefan, what you did for that young'n was amazing...as what he did for the fellow student! Talk about all kinds of "paying it forward" in all kinds of ways!

I give some away to my co-workers. I try to find stones that reflect their personality/history/interests. One fella I work with is really into American history and he is very patriotic. So I gave him one red, one white and one blue tumbled stone to match his flag. I also threw in some local Texas chert I collected. Another lady I work with loves cats, so I gave her some tiger's eye, leopard jasper and Mexican lace agate (she has some Mexican heritage). Folks seem to like them, and it creates a nice vibe in the office. I have cut and polished some geodes and thundereggs for my nephews. My wife and daughter claim the rest!

I give some away and I sell others at our local hobby/craft fair. It's amazing how many people love rocks! My kids school has a display of sorts outside the local Post Office that says "Kindness Rocks!" with painted rocks to give away too, which I love. So many people stop and take one.
