When Facebook (FB) first started, I opened an account to see what was going on. Didn't like it, didn't use it. In 2007, FB deactivated my account. Yesterday, I got an email that I had reactivated it. I was like, "what??" Before I could figure out if it was legit, I got another email saying I was suspended. OK, WTH??
After some digging, I found out the emails were legit. I realized I was hacked and looked to FB for help. LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a joke! FB does NOT interact with mere mortals. The ONLY thing I could find to do was to disagree with the suspension. I couldn't do much of anything else because I was locked out and my password had been changed (though I didn't remember the original, anyway.)
I clicked through the suspension thing and before I could submit (or, actually leave a written comment), I got a pop up that read (I paraphrase) that if I continued, then FB would either find me innocent or guilty. If guilty, my account would be forever shut down- immediately. So, it was kinda like gambling.
I don't care if my never used account gets shut down, but what about the innocent people who are hacked who WANT their accounts? I NEVER found a way to describe what happened to me. I have no idea what was posted that was so egregious that it was banned so quickly. The hackers are from Myanmar, so I can only guess.
FB says they will have a decision in 24 hours. Coming up on that now. Let's see what happens...

I feel for you.
A good friend of mine had his FB account hacked into several years ago. The hacker changed the password. Then started posting some nasty stuff.
The problem my friend had was that he was the only Admin for a local Boy Scout Group. He was also the only Admin for the Opera House. He thought he had added me as an Admin. I thought I had done everything to accept the request. Apparently not. Or the hacker removed everyone who was an Admin. I was only a Manager, which has limited access on what can be done.
The Boy Scout page was permanently removed from Facebook, due to what the hacker did there. All sorts of photos and memories were lost.
My friend had to establish a new account. Facebook had permanently banned my friend, so he spent 6 months jumping through hoops just to be able to get a new account.
I started a new Opera House Facebook Page. Was able to pin a post on the old one re-directing visitors to the new one. Had to search for all internet pages that had a link to the old page. Inform them of the new page.
I have had some other friends get hacked into. Or, people starting a Facebook page with their photos.
Noot fun.

Sounds to me more like spam than hacking. I often get spurious e-mails that my Amazon account has been suspended, got one yesterday that my paypal account was suspended. Do NOT reply to these or try to correct the problem because there isn't one, it is just somebody trying to get your personal info. I have never had an Amazon account and my paypal account is just fine. I just ignore these and send them to the junk box then delete. I'd just ignore everything anybody sends you saying anything has been suspended. I certainly hope you didn't go to FB through a link in the suspension e-mail.

That was the first thing I ascertained. I went to FB, did a bunch of stuff and eventually landed on a page that would let me down load my activity. It clearly shows where someone in Myanmar changed my password.

What a PITA to have to deal with! Even if you don't really use it, it could become an issue!
I have a FB page...I think. I had one YEARS ago...but haven't been into it for probably ten years or more. I'm not sure I'd even know if I had been hacked!

rockjunquie sorry you got hacked. Facebook sucks. I have an account that I never post to. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten friend requests from people who are already my friends on facebook. I've sent more emails telling people they need to change their passwords because they've been hacked than actually going on there.

Yes, FB does suck. That's why I don't go there. jasoninsd the account that got hacked was deactivated by FB in 07- no telling how old it was before they did that. I doubt I ever even posted to it. I would not have known this happened if they hadn't told me it was reactivated. Imagine MY surprise.

FB - is that short for fubar?
You all can probably guess I've never had a "social" media account, so my opinion of it all is a bit skewed.
Oh, yeah - that's all of my opinions... . Just ask my darling wife. She'll be up for sainthood someday!

I have to have one. Only way I connect with some friends/relatives. Am also Admin for 4 FB Groups + my business page. A member of several other groups, like history, home renovation, genealogy, kindness, rocks and others. I also follow my employer so I can find out about upcoming events and specials.
It has some good and bad qualities.

I was very political on FB - Naturally was banned.
A lot of my very extended family (150 + surnames) uses it to stay connected, especially my sister - She makes 10-50 posts daily and has done so for years.
I ignored FB for years, then last year FB reached out to me to reactivate my account.
I gave it a try, then they wanted 5 of my FB friends to verify I am who I think I am. Phooey on them!
Apparently a lot of people tried to contact me after my stroke and suddenly I'm activated again ? ? ?
I get lots of emails from FB now that I delete. Who needs them?

I just mark the FB emails as spam. That works for me. Rarely get them anymore in my primary mailbox. They just go to Spam box.

1dave, I will go you one better, I have never had a FB account. Don't need one, don't see that I would ever need one. Do not do Instagram, Twitter, Tik-Tok , etc, etc... On top of that I still have a Flip Phone! and I have never sent a text!. I have told my kids if they want to communicate, then just call me. Of course I don't usually have my flip phone on me so I miss about half of the few calls I get. The only time I carry it is when the wife is out and about and might need to reach me. Unfortunately I am beginning to see a trend that if a person does not have a "Smart Phone", then getting things done will be more and more difficult. Noticed that on our trip this past Fall. That and being able to bring up a picture or two of a particular specimen I have at one of the Craft Shows could prove useful. I suspect that At&T will eventually tell me that Flip Phones are no longer supported forcing me over to the Dark Side!! This Forum represents the extent of my Social Network participation. The structure with keeping all discussions on mostly on topic and anything potentially argumentative in the Cave. That formula works for me. As I have said many times, I would like to meet everyone here in person realizing that is not an achievable goal (unless I have Bowerick's talents and tools(great book by the way)). The 4 people whom I have met in person are all great folks and I would love to add to that list. It's one reason I would try and and get to Quartzite one year, not to buy rocks, well maybe a few, but to meet fellow Forum members. Anyway I think I have drifted well off the original subject, mission accomplished. Henry

So many places require it now.

HankRocks Vince still has a flip phone, too. Had to get a new one when Verizon was doing away with whatever "G" it was service and actually found a Kyocera "ultra rugged" flip phone to replace the old one. I have to have a smart phone because I'm a realtor and a lot of apps I need to do business are on my phone, like the app to open lockboxes. I also rely on the GPS a lot so I can get to houses in places I'm not familiar with. I'm directionally challenged! I have no apps for anything personal like banking, payments, etc. on my phone. I don't trust Apple as far as I can throw them.

I do feel that a Smartphone is in my future and I am not going to resist it past a certain point. In words of the Borg, "Resistance is Futile!!"

Ignoring is resistance. I'm still on a land line. Texting? what are you talking about? Say again? I don't get it. Apparently I'm getting a new phone that prints out what they are saying. Really? OK. (I think)
