I posted this in another thread awhile ago. I found it on the Yellowstone last year and after tumbling it I decided it needed to be slabbed. It seems really agatey but I've never seen one like it. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Another great find lunker! I've seen similar material from Oregon labeled simply as Green Moss Agate. If you Google "Oregon Green Moss Agate", there's a bunch of pictures that look very similar. I don't see why it wouldn't be a Green Moss Agate from Montana...

Of the countless thousands of rocks I have collected on the Yellowstone I have never seen anything like that.

lunker nice find! It does sound like it's a one-off piece and I'm curious about the outside and the hardness. Did this piece resemble typical Montana moss agate in appearance/shape/hardness or was it obvious that it was something different?

Just random finds where there is no deposit, essentially one of a kind.

I must not have taken a picture of it on the day I found it. It looked real agatey in the rough but you could see it was green. It had a lumpy agatey shape too. It's hard and takes a polish like any other Montana agate and the white areas do let light through. I'll post some backlit pictures of the slabs I cut.

I have found some ridiculous stuff on the Yellowstone. Even better than the MT agate is this rare yellow and orange jasper which supposedly comes from Lewiston.
