Does anyone know how to get the price sticker residue stain off of a rock? I normally just use rubbing alcohol to get the actual sticky residue off but even after I did that there's still a stain left. It no longer feels sticky it just has that dark look to it. I don't think it was the rubbing alcohol that made the stain because there's another stain on the back from a different sticker that was no longer on there when I bought it. Any ideas? Thanks

NAPTHA will usually remove the sticky residue left behind from stickers. I used to be a furniture repairman and had to deal with this frequently with showroom furniture where they would use adhesive backed paper price tags instead of tie-on price tags. NAPTHA, which is the same chemical sold as cigarette lighter fluid (not the same as charcoal lighter fluid) is also sold in quart and gallon cans at hardware stores. NAPTHA would remove most sticker residues off of furniture without damaging the finish on nitro-celulose lacquer finished pieces.

Good question.
Would hardware store acetone work?

Used to use Ronson lighter fluid to get price stickers off of Hot Wheels packages and Also used it to separate the bubble from the card to get the car out for customizing, then you could reglue the bubble later so it looked brand new and un-opened. If you try I’d test it first on the back side or other inconspicuous area to make sure it doesn’t discolor the mineralization.

Granted, there aren't any fun fumes to make you high or rot your liver, but I use baking soda rubbed into the residue to get the stuff off. It's quick, easy, and cheap. Some automotive 1000 grit wet/dry silicon carbide sandpaper might remove the dark spot, but if I'm going to cab it the stain is superficial and should quickly grind off.
