Sweet Alabama
I know the song is Sweet Home Alabama- but it ain't my home, but it sure was sweet.
Jim jamesp , was gracious to invite Tom & I to meet him up in AL at his Petrified wood find.
Honestly I felt privileged, kind of like having the old gold miner show you his good hunting spot-
it just ain't done - unless he plans to shoot you afterwards ๐.
Well I'm hear to testify, that Petrified wood deposit that Jim hunted down, is all he claimed it to be and more.
It was downright overwhelming.
I know, I know he's shown the photos & said just that-
BUT I saw it, walked on it, picked it up & even carried some home.
We had a wonderful fun adventure with Jim & hope to do it again in the future.
Thanks again Jim for not shooting us at the end ๐
We had fun

We had a wonderful fun adventure with Jim & hope to do it again in the future.
I was too busy being awestruck to take many photos, but I got a few.
First place we went to was a creek with lots of blocky pieces of the Petrified wood.
It's been raining a lot up there and all the creeks were high & muddy.
Fortunately there were still some exposed bars with lots of wood.
Jim started to warn us, not to pick up too much from the creek, but to save ourselves for the "mother lode".
And it sure was - basically a dried side channel from the creek that was just acres of Petrified wood laying everywhere.
I didn't know where to start.
Interestingly when I walked to the creek (no good photo to show)
I could look across and see that the entire bank was a solid layer of the Petrified wood.
Pretty amazing.
And here's Jim in his natural element :
An interesting side note- some of those rocks are so hard they actually chipped the face of my
newly gifted rock hammer (mason's hammer in a former life).
I'm looking forward to cabbing some of it.
Thanks again Jim for not shooting us at the end ๐
We had fun
