ashley these are the rocks I was talking about in the other thread, not sure what they are to be honest, but they are VERY HARD and grind very slowly. Photos are taken wet. Anyone have any Ideas on what these might be? They are at least a 7 on the mohs, grind very slow like agate, the brown outer layer looks and feels waxy but they are not brown all the way through. No banding that I can see, tho I have not managed to grind through the brown yet on the ones in the tumbler. Any Ideas all?

Quartz with Iron stain on the outside. Focus would help.

Why do you think its not Quartz? Look and feel is totally wrong for standard "quartz". I have a bunch of quartz here and this looks nothing like it. Plus I posted this on Mindat, and the ID their was Chert. Which, I was today years old when i learn that chert is a type of flint.

Oh I see, your distinguishing between "Macrocrystalline" Quartz or Rock Quartz vs "Cryptocrystalline" or the Chalcedony varieties rather than another mineral type such as Calcite, Barite whatever..in that case sure Chert is a reasonable guess.

Yes, Exactly "Macrocrystalline" Quartz I can Id easily. Its the "Cryptocrystalline" that I have a problem with sometimes lol.

I got it out of a rock pile at a landscape company, it has since been IDed as Chert from the Mermac River. Along with a crap load of Crowley ridge agates.

I see colors similar to Crowley ridge agate but no fortifications or other banding.
