Date: April 27. 2023 Weather: Rainy at the start, later cloudy with some nice streaks of sunshine, 60°F Destination: Sylvensteinsee Damm, Achenkirch near Achensee, Stod-Wasserfall, Oberaubach
This time I was up for something new.
My usual route is down south in the direction of lake Sylvenstein and then I make a right to go for Vorderriß,
Oberes Isartal, Wallgau, Rißbach... you name it.
Arriving at lake Sylvenstein I rarely ever made a left.
The area just did not seem that appealing - on Google maps that is. So... lets go left. when - shortly before arriving at lake Achensee - to my right opened up a beautiful valley with some massive mountains flanking it. That was my calling! I made a right as soon as possible and tried to find the litte road that would bring me closest to the mountains.
Finally - after some trial and error - I made a stop and decided to walk from here on... and was rewarded after just a couple of minutes.
A beautiful waterfall came into view, literally just around a corner. Spent some time there and then proceeded further into the valley along the trail. When presented with the possibility to make a left I just took it and... see for yourself.
The area is just amazing. Walking along stream Oberaubach, the mountains in view, one could go for hours deeper and deeper onto that region. The eyes surely would never tire. Had to turn back way too soon as I had some duties that evening... but one thing was clear: I'll be back. Enjoy and have a great week!

That waterfall is pretty nice Gabriel. But it was cool seeing things are turning green, with the snow topped mtns behind. Looks like a nice place to explore.
I have wondered, is this and the other places you go that remote, OR are you just a lucky dog that no one else happens to be there ? Makes it all the nicer, IMHO.
Thanks as always for taking us with you. Patty

Thanks as always for taking us with you. Patty Oh it was an amazing hike. So... some of the places are actually quite remote, others a bit hidden and let's be honest:
The two major factors are that 1. I do all my trips during the week and normal working hours.
That automatically cuts out a huge percentage of possible encounters. 2. Ppl. mostly go where there are big parking spots and easy accessible areas.
I tend to avoid those almost completely.

Thanks Gabriel - yup, that's about our technique as well.
Guess it holds true world round.
Here's another tip - if you have a boat (canoe , kayak, etc)
we have found going places only accessible by boat, also cuts out the "competition".
With the added benefit that any rock finds you can float back .
Cheers, Patty

Gabriel-GER, sharp eye and some great pictures. I especially like the tree reflection in the pond with ripples. I also enjoy the flowers and have found that I can take a picture with my phone and then get the name.
