Glorious BAKED goods? BAKED? BAKED? You deep fry a freakin donut! (yeah, I know some are baked, but why?!?) All that said, the pinnacle of the donut peak is the spudnut, a bit of potato added to the dough (or is it "do") is a wonderous thing. First Friday, huh? That's uncomfortably close to my dads birthday, considering that the proximity of the Spudnut Shop to his path to work played a huge role in the diabetes that took him out. Maybe I'll make a few almond flour keto donuts...

Has anyone ever made a bacon donut? Here in town we have a couple varieties of maple bacon bars. Some add bacon flavor to the icing I prefer the ones who put bacon bits home made of course all over them but a other shop in town just lays a fatty strip of bacon on top the maple glaze. It is BOMB DOT COM. Johnny aGates

Has anyone ever made a bacon donut? MMMM....Bacon Donuts! Like Johnny said...we've got some places in town which have maple iced donuts (or bars) with bacon on top. One place does "bits" and the other place just has a slice of bacon on top! I prefer the bits...it's less chewing! LOL Maple iced donuts are hands-down my favorite donut...but throw a piece of bacon on top, and I'm a happy happy man! LOL

Has anyone ever made a bacon donut? Voodoo donuts sold bacon maple bars along with several other unique varieties from their beginning somewhere around 2003, incidentally about the same time I began a low carb lifestyle. The Injustice...

The Injustice... I imagine a bacon maple bar must be the pinnacle of culinary perfection and sadly I can't give myself permission to indulge if I want to keep the weight off. Injustice, indeed.

We have a Krispy Kreme up the street. A really old one. It's on one of the main Blvds. Every time that hot and now sign is lit the traffic backs up. Luckily, DH and I were raised on Dunkin' Donuts. Not really crazy about the ultra sweet Krispy Kreme. But, man people line up for those things!

Not really crazy about the ultra sweet Krispy Kreme. But, man people line up for those things! Tela, I agree with you on the Krispy Kremes - blech! Our local Albertson's used to make doughnuts in store. When Krispy Kreme started up (a few years back), they started selling those instead in the store - double blech! That didn't last too long, and then they were out of here! I guess a lot of people around here must feel the same as I do about their wares There are a few locally owned non-chain doughnut shops around, several of them are pretty dang good. Our favorites, as of late, are apple fritters from Miss Donut. In this terrible economy, they've gotten pricey! At least they are huge, so you feel like you are getting something for your money.
