Interesting. Congrats, sick find. Not sure why, but I’ve found that you have a high probability of finding iris in material that has the quartz crystal center.

Fairly new here...not quite sure what "iris" is...I assume it has something to do with the prism effect...?

It is. It is not common and it is rarely achieved as you have to have the correct rock, the right cut and you have to be able to polish the slab without breaking it.
I have seen what is probably the largest MT iris agate in the world. (so far) It was impressive.

Nice iris Mark KWas it an accident or did you saw for the orientation? I’ve got some MMA that was supposedly marked for irises. Nothing so far. I’ve been holding them at arms length with the sun directly behind. Is that the correct way to view them?

When I sold all of those MT agates I went through them real fast to pull iris agates out. I cut this one on purpose trying to get iris. I didn't think it was actually going to work. I did it one other time cutting freehand and lost it of course. I still have that rock in the saw. I think I will go down and cut another one as soon as I hit the post button. I will know within 15 minutes of this post if I did it again.

Nice Iris - so far I have Iris from Montana moss agate, Brazilian agate and a white carnelian agate... Like you said, it's far and few between to find ..

High polish on both sides as thin as possible really enhances the iris.
