My wife is whisking us away to Ocean Shores, WA for the next few days! Boy do we need this break! We want to look for rocks also, so we’re wondering if there’s any place within and hour or so drive. We’ll also be in the Brinnon area a bit. So if anyone knows of a decent place to look, please let me know. Many thanks!

I have been to Damon Point which is a mile away? from Ocean Shores, to look for carnelian and orbicular jasper. It is summer and there haven't been any storms and it is a super popular location, but you still might find something there. There are also popular beach locations to the north, Rialto Beach, Ruby Beach, Kalaloch, and third and second beaches. Orbicular jasper is a possibility at any of these. Good luck.

Thank you very much! That is perfect. Couple of our favorite rocks to search for. Much appreciated!

My gosh it’s beautiful here!! Coming from 104+° Texas heat to this 75° gorgeousness is so nice. I love when we visit Washington. We were coming here often a couple years, monthly almost, when my wife’s daughter lived here. But now that we have full custody, we only come here once every summer to make sure things are going OK with her summer visitation with her dad. We have the kid for a couple of days, then we’ll wonder around on our own for a bit and relax a few days. We’re in this cute little townhouse. The beach is right on the other side of the dunes outside out back door. I think we will hit Damon Point trail today and hopefully find some rocks. The beach is beautiful here, but we only found five rocks and just one seems good. This beautiful eagle was at rest for quite a while. I stayed a very respectful distance, zooming in as good as my pitiful iPhone could. There was a family of 6-7 people that kept going around the eagle real close, taking pictures and even yelling at it or something. I remember wishing it was a bison for a bit instead of an eagle. Normally, I would yell at people for something like this. But just having had surgery…I’m not allowed to yell at people for a couple more months at least.

Nice change in weather for you. I've seen the Eagles there. It looks very majestic. You might see a few deer where you're staying, they just wander around. Hope the rest of the vacation goes well.

Yes, it is very much. Just waiting for my family to start waking up so we can begin exploring more. Everyone’s pretty exhausted still. Our flight here should’ve only been less four hours, but ended up close to 10 hour waiting ordeal. much of those on a hot plane. But man it’s worth it now!

I was at Damon Pt about a month ago. Great beach to walk! I walked the SW side almost to the end. Didn't find any good rocks there (unless you like small white gravel-size rocks - sugar quartz(?)). If you go there, try the NE side of the point. You may have better luck there. What we did like, was the Pizza Factory, for good reasonably priced pizza and salad bar. Good luck!

We just got back from Damon Pt. Had an absolute blast! Kind of just picked up everything that that caught our eyes really, I will sort through them tonight and throw back any non-keepers. Pretty sure we found some interesting stuff, but the light was beginning to wane so it was hard to tell. There was certainly more to look for there then at the the beach that we’re actually staying on. Can’t wait to see what we find tomorrow! We’ll be heading over to the Port Townsend area and will be looking for areas between here and there.

We didn’t find any agates but are very happy with all the interesting rocks that we did find. Ended up bringing back near 20lbs of rock lol. Looks like a mix of things from basalts, quartz, petrified wood, some kind of iron rock, granite, Jasper etc. Most are natural colors and many have swirling features. I took a couple pounds and ran them through a fast tumbler for a week and we’re happy.

This little guy does not look like anything else we found. I think it looks like it could be an agate. My wife does as well. Think we’ll find out the slow and fun way by throwing it in the tumbler. Oh, the kid did end up finding several small agates it turns out. Her 10 year old eyes beat our 50 year old ones easily.
