Get my grit from Kingsley North and it comes in the perfect boxes already.
I keep my polish and prepolish in the bags they came in and just put a clothespin over the hole in the corner of the bags.

Coarse grit gets stored in a 3 gallon plastic bucket with lid. Everything else in the bag they came in inside a plastic margarine container to prevent cross contamination.

I like nuts. I have many plastic nut containers. That is what I use to store grit and other stuff in my shop. Thoroughly washed of course. A 40 oz container for Beer Nuts will hold in excess of 5 lbs. of grit.

I like containers like this to put some kitty litter in, then put the oily scraps from cutting, especially smaller pieces that break off. Then I leave them in there for a while shaking occasionally. The rinse the pieces and they are ready for the tumbler.

I had my wife pick up some of those "cheap" tupperware-type containers at the dollar store...that way I'd stop stealing hers out of the kitchen! LOL

I keep mine in the dollar store food storage containers (along with the 1/4 cup plastic scoops purchased from the dollar store). I can stack them up pretty well, so they don't take a lot of space. I'm thinking about buying a QT-66 and a separate 12 pound barrel to use with it as well, so I may have to think about storage for larger amounts of grit!

I store my grit in gunpowder barrels. That will certainly keep people from messing with your grit.

Excess grit is left in the plastic bags they came in, stored in a cardboard box. I twist-tie any opened corner and put inside a ziplock bag. I use tupperware containers for each grit, for easy access. I use the same measuring spoon, but think I’ll get separate ones for each grit. That seems to be a common theme for the experienced tumblers here.
Welcome!

I store all my unpolished rocks, in Rubbermaid "Take Along" containers. The vast majority of my containers are 5.2 cup ones I get 2 for $1.25 at Dollartree ($0.625 per container isn't too bad). I did however pick up some larger 7 cup containers at Biglots. I use the 7 cup version for grit and media since it holds 5lbs of either with a little room to spare. The rest of my grit, which is 5 to 50lbs extra of each grit size at any given time, stays in its bag, and sometimes its box, all of which are in a large yellow and black storage tote from Costco, under my rock workbench.
Since the 5.2's and 7's have the same footprint and lid, just a difference in height, it makes storing all the containers on wall-shelves very simple and consistent. Helps keep my storage and work area clean with everything easy to access.
