I was sick of trying to find the proper, small v-belt to drive my passive shaft, so I pulled out all the stops and went direct drive via sprockets and a roll chain. What a difference! Also, the sound in this video is 1,286 times louder than in real life - it’s hardly loud at all. Here’s the video: odysee.com/chain:7c

Very nice job on that. Strong, simple, almost nothing to break. That’s going to last forever.

Nice, looks smooth. Weren't you using a small link belt or couldn't you have? Also, I noticed the hinge on the motor. I've seen that talked about before but don't really understand what it's for. Can you explain? Is it to tension and un-tension the belt at the flick of a wrist? Does it reduce noise by floating the motor on the tension of the belt like that? Is it bad for the motor shaft? Thanks! I was using the link belt to make the small belt, but it turns out that the Links were so durable that they were actually eroding away the pulleys, and it was a powdery mess. The idea behind the hinged motor is that, like you said you can add and remove a belt in a split second, but it also keeps the perfect amount of tension on the belt the entire time. It’s the best of both worlds. The motor was already really silent - I don’t think the hinge Made it any quieter in my case. The shaft is nearly indestructible- this won’t hurt it. It’s not as much weight as you may think, it just works out perfectly.
