Howdy, Though I'd post some pics of some finds I made at a yard sale, one from a rock yard sale i hit on my way back from the ranch, and one specimen I've cut from some material I found on the Mojave Desert; First two pics are from a yard sale. I filled up a box thinking it would be quite pricey and the people said $4.00 for the box because this was the leftover junk ( My God what did I miss!). Anyway, went right back in and bought all they had. Red Palm Root from the Red Mountain- Castle Butte region of the Mojave: This one had palm fiber too on the left of the stone: This one is Palm Root from Edison, CA. $2.00 per pound and I was happy to find it at a rock yard sale. And finally this is a piece of Fossil Reed, Typha sp. that I found at Lonely Butte on the Mojave Desert. Nice replacement of cellular structure in this one.

Great finds Mel! How come I can't ever find any "Rock" yard sales...? That stuff is very cool. I don't blame you for returning to get the rest. Steve

Rock yard sales? Hell I have trouble finding regular yard sales. Auctions are nonexistant in my neck of the woods. Some people don't know how fortunate they are. Nice find.

Steve: We have a really cool old character over in the central valley. He has this huge yard of maybe 2 acres he calls his rock yard and he has sales by appointment where you just go by and dig through all two acres of rock at a usual price of $1.00 per pound. Sometimes a bit more if you find a real prize like that Edison Palm root. Usually you have to go after a rain or everything is covered with dust. I make a point of stopping by at least once or twice a year as he constantly purchases new collections and throws them in the yard. Last time I went, besides the palm, he had a huge lot of Horse Canyon Moss and Plume. Got me a five gallon bucket full and sat and squirted rock in the sun so long I got sunburnt *L*. What fun though!....mel
