Date: July 20. 2023 Weather: Sunny, with clouds, 69°F Destination: Pupplinger AuWell... This day did not at all go as planned - nevertheless it turned out quite pleasant. The original plan: Get up early and prepare some snacks and drinks for the trip. My friend arrives and we make our way to Eng in Austria to spend the day there and check out many streams, river beds and all the amazing nature in the region. So much for the plan. I DID get up early and prepared some snacks and drinks for the trip. THEN I got a message from my friend, telling me she might need a little more time. Quite a while later, I got another message, telling me she's not gonna make it. ( frown )
Packed my stuff, got in the car and off I went. A little while on the road I realized going for Eng today would be kinda stupid. The drive is a little under two hours single way... so I would arrive in the area around noon. Way too late for a "whole day trip" with several stops and excursions. While those thoughts went through my mind, I just went by a "P" (Parking) sign, driving through a beautiful forested area. So I slowed down and seeing that I would approach another parking area in a short distance, I quickly made up my mind. The areas seemed nice enough, Google Maps showed me the river Isar nearby, some stony areas and lots of forest... so I was sold. Parked, grabbed my gear and started walking in the direction of the river. I let you be the judge if the stop was worth it. I had fun and even found some rocks and some "beach brick?" to add to my collection. At home I even found out that I picked up a stone containing natural iron. (Yes, I have a very strong, flat magnet attached to my little tool and the stone got quite "attached" to it) Hope you enjoy the pictures! Gabriel

You're an adaptable sort of guy Gabriel - a good trait to have !
I think you must have been happy when you got to the river, after walking through that burnt over forest.
Looks like a larger faster moving river than you usually frequent. Not much wading there I suppose.
But a whole lot of cool specimens - well worth the trip out.
The iron one is way cool, and what is that egg looking one on your brick ?
I'd love to see a couple of those neat patterned ones all shined up
Thanks, as always for sharing. Patty

Gabriel, you have such an eye for photography! It looks to me like the change of plans didn't "ruin" the day one bit!

Gotta be. Life is too short to be stuck in one track. I liked the burnt forest as well. Has it's own feel... and I like it a bit eerie / desolate at times. just adds to the diversity of the place.
The water was ok to wade around - the visibility was just bad. So I just looked around at the rocky shore. Yea I'm quite happy with the rocks I collected. The iron was a very nice surprise. Thought it was unusually heavy... still was amazed when I saw the whole magnet hanging on the stone. The egg... is a funny oddity and it'll stay exactly like this I guess. Still looking for a decent space to move all my tools to and restart the whole polishing stuff up again. If you need ppl. things just move soooo slowly.
Happy to share as always!
Gabriel

Won't complain about that "unexpected detour".

It was a great little trip. On that note: I actually managed to venture out to Eng last week - and it was great! (Cost me two pairs of shoes though...)

That crucifix flower would be VERY popular with a number of middle-aged women I know.

That crucifix flower would be VERY popular with a number of middle-aged women I know. And many pirates I know. Just need the wind to stop blowing it to so you can see the X marks the spot.
