Condor -
Me luvs rutilated quartz!!! Not easy to find any of decent quality for a decent price, at least not that I've seen. So, pray tell, where did you find yours?
It comes in at least 4 different colors that I know of - gold, silver, black, and redish, right? Looks like you have some of each - How Sweet!!! Very, very nice!!!
And the other rocks in your mix don't look too shabby either! Great lookin' batch, Condor!

Ooooooooo those are so cool. Where does a person find rutilated quartz? Can it be found anywhere or are there specific areas that have this phenomenon? There's some cool shapes and colors in the rest of the batch too.

Thanks for the compliments folks. I got the rough rock some time back from an ad in Rock and Gem magazine. I can't remember the name of the place. I keep wanting to order more, but I haven't seen the ad in a while. Don't know if that place is still around or not.

That's some nicely tumbled, very clean-looking rutilated quartz. Well done!

Those are fantastic! I guess I need to get me a few of those...they are neat looking. More of natures amazement when it comes to creation. Thanks for sharing those pieces with us Condor. Steve

Those are simply beautiful! I take it "rutilated quartz" is quartz with naturally occuring internal "things"? If so, I have a few small pieces that I've found out rock hunting. Looks like small seeds (?) inside of clear to slightly opaque quartz.

Really like 'em. How did you do the pics? What kind of lighting do you have set up? Is the blue stuff felt?

Casco, here is how I did the lighting. Some time ago, someone posted directions on how to make a lightbox, and I tried it, and it worked. Very inexpensive. Go here for the directions. www.pbase.com/wlhuber/light_box_light_tent. Then scroll down to "lightbox/light tent." The blue background is just a blue chartboard I bought at Wal-Mart for about thirty-nine cents. The white background is a T-shirt. Condor
