This came to me unmarked in an old collection probably dating from the 50s. I'm pretty sure it's Mexican in origin but cant pin down the trade name, specific mine etc. Any help appreciated.

That was my immediate thought. The colors are right as well as the fortification/moss areas. Agua Nueva Moss Agate.

Thanks rockjunquie and jasoninsd . It may well be Agua Nueva though to my eye it has characteristics of possibly some other Mexican localities. For now Agua Nueva Moss will be the "working name" for it.

Couldn’t see anything close in Brad Cross’ book and didn’t feel like digging through thirty pounds of Zenz. Surely one of the Chihuahua deposits and of course I see hints of Laguna. : )

I detect Laguna too . It's interesting that the same party I received the stone from also had some fine old Laguna nodules. I guess it's impossible to determine the source for certain at this point.
