This is a few of the pieces of petrified wood that either I collected alone, or I collected with my father and grandfather. After washing this one off it is white.

I brought all my big pieces of petrified inside, because they were getting this red tone on the outside. This one is HEAVY.

Thank you! That helps me a lot! Are they often covered in white limestone when you find them, or do they pretty much look like the pics when you find them?

This one is much bigger than it looks. Non of these in this thread are small, except the one I was holding in my fingers.

Thank you! That helps me a lot! Are they often covered in white limestone when you find them, or do they pretty much look like the pics when you find them? In Texas, I have only found that one buried in reddish clay. All the other petrified wood I found was located on the surface of the ground. I can spot a tiny petrified wood while slowly driving my truck. Last week I found the tiniest petrified wood I have ever found. It was while I was slowly driving on a rocky driveway and sticking my head out the window. That is how I sometimes do rock hounding in the 106 degree Texas blazing heat.
