Hello gang, I was hoping to seek some advice about possible detours I could convince my fiancée to make on our upcoming trip to Banff and Jasper. Our plans are for a bunch of day hikes in the national parks, which I know makes collecting a bit problematic since, well, I can't do it.
We'll be flying in to Calgary, staying in Banff for a bit and then driving up to Jasper to stay there for a bit as well, and then we'll be driving to Edmonton for a company celebration. The parks are quite expansive so that really limits what I can do inside of them, but are there any cool lapidary shops folks know of, or areas just outside the parks where some light collecting would be possible? My fiancée doesn't have much affinity or patience for going on a dedicated dig, but collecting while traversing a trail is right up her alley.
Tips on different rocks I could look out for would be appreciated. I've read that jade is endemic to the region but can't seem to corroborate that on MinDat, so I'm sure I'm doing something wrong and don't trust my own research here. Thanks in advance to any advice or recommendations!
