Hello everyone,
I am a complete newbie to rock tumbling. I have been interested in geology for quite some time and taken several online courses in Earth sciences.
Having a life long passion in astronomy, I thought it was time to discover the world under my feet. I stumbled on a YouTube channel (Michigan Rocks) and was compelled (as a tinkerer/engineer) to build by own tumbler using junk parts from printers, a servo motor, motor drive module and an Arduino. It's currently been running for the last 72 hours with a 4Lb load in the barrel. So far, all looks good.
Not sure on the RPM setting. It's happy at 30rpm. What would the group suggest a higher or lower speed? As this can be altered in the sketch to the Arduino.
I have some rock to try for the first run, but don't want to spoil them with my inexperience. In Astronomy this would be called "First Light", what is the first run in Lapidary called?
Great to be here guys! Thanks in advance...
Ian.

Hey Ian! Welcome to the forum from South Dakota! There's been some discussion on the forum about tumbler speed. If you do a search, I bet you'll find a bunch of conversations about it. We call the first tumbling run, "Fingers Crossed"! LOL
